A simple solution is for the seller of a $600 item to say to the buyer, "the first 6 C-notes win." In other words, whoever shows up first with cash in hand gets it. The buyer runs the risk that someone else may show up earlier with the cash, and can decide if he wants to drive 200 miles. As a seller I would say, give me your cellphone number and I'll call you if a cash buyer shows up while you are driving.

if a seller were to tell me that on the phone, most likely I'm not coming. If I call, no one else in the cue, I expect you'll honor my word, not subject to someone driving faster or closer. When I get there, you can tell me someone else is coming, if true, and it might influence me. And don't surprise me with someone on site to bid against - I won't.

Several years ago, while building the house, I read an ad for several days for some patio type doors. Didn't need them for the house build but already had a future project in mind. I called on a Wed? We negotiated and buyer said he really wanted to sell not only the doors but some windows. Again no use for them, but for the price he offered ($1500) I agreed to take them all. He was about an hour or so from me and I asked if I needed to pick up that afternoon. He said no. I explained that as I had a couple of labor type helpers, Sat pickup was preferable to leaving these guys unsupervised half a day. He agreed, gave me directions and suggested I call before leaving town (about half way between us) and he would meet me at a major intersection. Sat morning I called as agreed only to be told that the items were sold and picked up the day before. Not happy then, still not.

So now, it doesn't matter if I expect to see item and buyer in next 15 minutes, you can bet I want his word it will be there. You can also bet, that if I'm selling, first guy has priority. If he's not only interested party, I make sure he knows. If I get multiple parties interested, I tell them where they stand and also follow up when item is sold.

When I read ads with language like above or "won't last, "will be gone this afternoon", I never respond, but will chuckle when reading the repost. Just for fun, I'll copy the ad or number just to compare LOL

When someone is coming out I let them pick a time, but I also tell them if they are a minute late I will sell to someone else. I will honor my word and time. One time a guy was about five minutes late. A second buyer knew i gave a time limit to the first guy and offered me more to break my deal - I refused. He came out to look at the item an hour before the first guys time. I again refused till the time was up. He stood there and waited and ticked off the minutes. The time came and went and I sold him the item. The first guy showed up late and I reminded him....if you're late I will sell it, and I did.

I always keep my word but rarely do others when I agree to come out and see an item. I've been stiffed many times.

Sadly I have never sold anything that I have bought.

Going to run out of ground some day.

Took some roads that I never hardly go down and past and old farm place with about 300 foot of equipment sheds that opened to the east side and started day dreaming. :cloud9:

One time years ago I was in the market for a used diesel pickup. I found one in georgia and went to look at it. I made an offer, but the seller had it on ebay at that moment and refused to consider my offer until the auction ran its course....turned down cash in hand.

The auction finished while i was standing there. Top bidder offered 5500, I had 7500 in my hand...and he turned me down and took the ebay bidder.
Weird.

It was worth $2000 to him not to get a Negative feedback I guess. :)

When I showed up with cash once they just ended the auction and took my cash. Actually it was the other way around. :D

I fail to see the point of this thread . We low-ball . Generally my first offer is 1/2 what someone is asking . I have to make money out of it ? even Dealers wil bend , I saw a really nice air seeder advertised in a dealer for 42'000 a few years ago that i know for fact had sat in their lot for 2 years . offering me all kinds of finance and zero this and that . Threw my cheque book on the table offering 24,000 and he took 28'000 :) Nothing offensive about it ..it's business !

One of my main 320hp tractors that i have had for 7 years that was a local tractor from a bigger farmer (10,000 acres) was being sold 3rd hand asking 60,000 . my offer of 50,000 was literally laughed at and told me " i will get more than that on the auction" ..a bit of net searching found where he had put said tractor on an auction in the states and i bought it for $42,000 needless to say he was pissed :)

I sell a lot ....Always ask 25% more than i am willing to take :)

NOW THIS IS FUNNY......you say " I fail to see the point of this thread" .....THEN you say " my offer of 50,000 was literally laughed at and told me " i will get more than that on the auction"

You pissed off the seller he would rather sell it to a man from Mars for $1.00 than sell it to you for 50K - That's the point.

T-H-A-T-'S T-H-E P-O-I-N-T ( EXACTLY of this thread.) You did something wrong to the seller and you proved it right here and on top of that you were unaware you did something wrong to blow the deal FOR YOU. You left with your tail between your legs. Remember the seller has the power NOT YOU and again - you proved that.

OH SURE you ended up with the deal, but that 's a moot point. The point of the tread is to teach people like you to always walk away with the deal and stop pissing sellers off and go home with your tail between your legs.

It's Low ballers that do not know the ART OF NEGOTIATION. It's about LOW BALLERS who are like bulls in a China shop.
It's about THUG Low ballers who are rude and abusive, It's about Low ballers that don't have Panache.

There is an art to low balling and some here know and have that are other like you sadly don't even know you're bad at it.

It's not about percentages, Firm not firm, offers, etc. it's about the ART OF LOW BALLING to walk away with the deal.
