Yep, they all look good to me, but I like the first one in front of that yellow Piper best.

I think I agree with you, Bird. That was the J-3 that I flew up there. So, yes, I think that is one of the reasons that I like that pic, even if I do look tired. Great memories!

Lou: Thanks for your vote! And yes, rain on pastures and hay fields would be very nice! (As well as the cold 12 pack!)

A husband suspects his wife is having an affair with a pilot, but she keeps denying it until finally the husband finally knew when his wife said:

“Honey, I’ve told you once, I’ve told you twice, I’ve told you niner thousand times, negative on the affair.”

RAIN!!!!

It isn't even showing on the radar, but it just began raining here! Lots of wind too, but for rain the last day of July, that is almost unheard of! Doing the happy rain dance here! :cool2:

Flying a J-3 for days to get somewhere....pain and pleasure at the same time.

How many times did you stop for fuel? Did you carry a spare tank of gas in the back? We usually carried a 2.5 gallon spare behind the back seat if we were going far. Does anyone sell a small lightweight battery powered EGT (so you could lean your mixture a bit) now? We always just left it almost full rich most of the time and got crummy fuel gal/hour for an 85 hp engine.

That's a nice J-3, the 1 my buddy might sell is a good one, but not Oshkosh show championship material.

I guess I could point my Fluke IR temp gun at the exhaust while flying. :)

Just for fun....

"Gee honey, some guys from the tractor board are going up to Oshkosh next year for a week...Can I go?".........(faint murmuring heard from wife in the other room)......................"Oh, and there's these 2 blondes that are planning on going too BTW".................."But honey, they know all about planes and it was their idea".......................and then the fight started.

Y'all ever heard of the "zippered spine syndrome", that's when you want to go somewhere with your buddies and your wife makes you remove your spine and put it in a felt lined wooden box before you go...

:)

Ok, since y'all have been nice, I'll post some pics from Oshkosh, and me and the J-3 Cub, and a couple of others.

Another definition of: "A blonde back seat driver.":D
Did you fly solo all the way up there?

That one been recently restored.

I didn't carry a spare fuel can. And I was not informed that the float for the fuel gauge SANK. I had planned to stop for fuel every 3 hours, but after departing, just after crossing the OK line, said float did sink! Now, the gauge was similar to a float, with a coat hanger sticking up. As the fuel level goes down, so does the metal gauge that is inserted into the float, in the fuel tank. So, airborne an hour, and my fuel gauge goes to empty! Set down and fueled up, and it only held a little over 1/4 tank. Took a couple of those stops to get actual time I could trust being airborne, and recalculating WHERE my fuel stops would be, and then I stopped every 3 hours.

One would think, the pilot taking the aircraft would have been informed of such an idiosyncrasy.
