what type wood for the canoe?

So I guess this is as good a place as any to ask.. what router bits do you use? I was looking for some rail/stile and raised panel bits and came across what I thought were good ones- I think they were eagle. Anyone have experience with these? They were pricy but seemed good, and made in USA which is important to me.

I bought my router bits at Lowes. They were carbide and seem to hold up great. However I don't use router bits that much since I have a old Craftsman shaper table for the rails and stiles. Most of my raised panels are made on a table saw.

I am a butcher of wood... the joy of working in an early 1800's context is that stuff does not have to be square or perfect...
Most of the furniture in our house I have built over the years including rebuilding the house inside and outside. I use a lot of reclaimed old wood & house parts.

I only dream of doing what you guys do. Very impressive!

The Queen Ann style I built was a faze for me, just to see if I could do it. I now mostly do Early American / Colonial type furniture.

Do you have plans for the Adirondack Chair you can post?

I took apart an old chair and made templates. I also looked at this issue of Fine Woodworking. http://www.finewoodworking.com/woodworking-plans/article/adirondack-chair.aspx

I used old 5/4" decking for the chair and foot rest. I also used plastic on the bottom of the chair to prevent wear and rot. I used cutting boards for the plastic and counter sunk the holes prior to attaching.
I've seen lots of designs, some with holes in the arms for holding beer glasses as well as ones with slot and hole to place a wine glass in. Some chairs have a wider arm for holding plates of food too.

Also if you look at old chairs some just had a two board back - not all that comfortable but really cool and simple looking.

I am starting a new chair and will be adapting a rocker base to the bottom...

I used to subscribe to Fine Woodworking and another woodworking mag, can't remember the name of it but it had holes punched so you could put them in a 3 ring binder. I have them stored somewhere.

I don't have any pictures of the Colonial pieces as I gave all of those away as gifts . We just had no room to put them.

My equipment is stored in my dads garage and I am trying to get a workshop built at our new house. But every time I get close to building something happens that takes the money I set aside.
