What do you think of the LiveWire, the new electric Harley prototype?

The bigger news, at least to me, is Harley building a 500 and 750 motorcycle. That is a big strategic change in direction for Harley. I don't care for the looks of those smaller bikes but think it is a smart decision.

In lesser news the Ameican Mortorcycle Company is stealing a play from J.D. and importing these models from India. Other than that I find the bikes far more appealing than the sporster

I own a Harley. It's a '98 FXDL (Low Rider). I did not buy this Harley to go 50 miles or "go silently into the night". When at a stop it shakes like its doing the St. Vitas dance and when I accelerate you can hear the pipes in the next county. I don't think an electric bike will ever be a Harley. However, now, wanna bee's can spend a lot of money and say they own a Harley.

I just hope it doesn't leave scars when Harley falls flat on their face.View attachment 383075

Not that unusual. They imported Italian bikes in the 1960's when HD purchased Aermacchi; the "Sprint" series. They sold it and that became Cagiva.

In as much as I'm in the motorcycle aftermarket parts business (and I do quite well monetarily with it btw), I look at the Livewire as a 'Feel Good' vehicle, much like the Tesla. Both are cult vehicles for the 'greenies'. Problem is, both contribute to pollution, just not source pollution but the juice to recharge comes at the cost of stack emissions from power plants, radioactive waste from N plants and a tiny bit actually comes from renewable energy like Hydro, solar and wind, but very little.

The internal combustion engine will be around for a long time, certainly longer than I'll be alive and probably longer than most posters on here will live as well.

Ypu'll never find a plug in vehicle in my garage. Maybe a hybrid like a Prius but never an extension cord car or bike.

I think the Livewire is a 'feel good' experiment for HD and nothing more.

Wow, a coal fired HD!
I'll stick to my V twin, it'll get me 200 miles or better on each "charge"

Just think about it. you could go coast to coast on $5 worth or electricity.

But you may go broke buying extension cords.:cool2:

And the reason stuff like this is made is because there's a market where quite a few folks with money want to feel good. I'm sure you know which demographic I'm talking about since they are the biggest percent of new Harley buyers anyway. Seems like there's even an acronym for them, but I can't remember what it is.

Yeah and the recharge time only takes about 60 seconds with no shortage of places to recharge
