Hi all,

I have a 2006 MF GC2310. About a month ago, I was mowing the lawn. When I finished and stopped the PTO and turned the tractor off. Ever since then, it will not start again.

When I turn the key to the right, I get nothing. I used to hear the fuel pump for a few seconds or if I turn the key to the left, I would hear something click after like 10 seconds or so, glow plug warmer (maybe - not sure). I bought a new battery, I have checked every fuse I can find for continuity, but I still get nothing when I turn the key.

The flashers work, but they appear to have nothing to do with the ignition.

I get 12v at the battery, 12v at the center wire going to the ignition and 12v down at the solenoid. I don't know how to test the ignition nor do I know how to test any of the neutral safety switches.

The bucket is down flat on the ground, so I don't even know how I could get it on a trailer and take it to the dealer.

If any of you guys have any tips or ideas for me to try, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance,
Ed

Welcome to TBN.

Most tractors will have several interlocks such as a seat switch, PTO switch, Clutch pedal switch, Transmission switch, etc. Trans may need to be in neutral, PTO must be off, Must be seated on seat to make switch, clutch pedal depressed to make switch, etc. Not all tractors have a clutch (many HST's don't). Not sure if your 2310 has a seat switch but it does have a PTO switch. Make sure the PTO is off, move the lever back and forth a few times. try holding the key in the start position while you move the PTO lever. The switch may be out of adjustment. Sometimes a switch will go bad or the plug to the switch can get disconnected. Check all the above devices (if equipped) to make sure the plugs are connected. Also check your battery ground cable where it connects to the frame. Just because it reads on a meter doesn't mean you have a good connection to the frame.

Been there done that ! I am all for safety, however I did bypass the seat switch. The thought of having a Diesel going from full RPM to Zero if I get off the seat didn't sit well with me.... ( no pun intended.... :) )

The easiest thing to do for you is sit on the seat, rock the hst pedal till you absolutely know its centered, tug the pto lever back to make sure the safety switch is closed, try to start it. if that fails get off and check the switches. first look at the seat switches and make sure its plugged in, look at your pto lever and make sure you find the switch and its depressed, same with hst pedal. There is a switch somewhere and you just need to play with the hst pedal rocking it and look visually till you see wires and a switch for it and again make sure it didnt fall off and its fully depressed. The kubota and massey BX/GC is very similar so looking in these places will surely get you started. Its also possible that you may have fuses blown and I am not sure where its on the GC but I think its somewhere near the steering console/under the dash/near the battery.

My GC2310 did the same thing. It ended up being the hydro-static lever neutral switch. The micro switch underneath the fender had came loose, put it back in position, contact was nade and it fired right up. If not, check your other safety switches mentioned in the post. If you want to check your seat switch, simply unplug it and use a jumper wire to close the contact and give it a try.

Could try to jump it at the starter solenoid , make sure it is in neutral, , mine had a blown fuse but it was very hard to see that it was blown, Once I replaced the fuse it was good to go. Double check all your fuses?

As others have said, there are multiple interlock switches, that can be causing the cut off. they are on the seat switch, the transmission lever, and the PTO lever.

Moving the levers, and verifying they are in the right position would be the first thing to check.

Check the ground strap from the frame to the engine, to see if it has broken.

Keep in mind, there are a total of 6 fuses. 3 of which affect the ignition system. Beside two of the fuses inside the fuse box, of 4, there is a 40 amp fuse in the line to the starter motor.

You can use a jumper to jump the safety switches, one at time, and see if it works.

From there, I would look at the back side of the ignition switch, for a broken wire. This has happened on several GC's. It can be very difficult to locate, this because of the lack of space there.

If you allowed moisture to enter the ignition switch through the key opening, you could have corrosion inside the switch.

If necessary, you should be able to raise the bucket, by applying pressure under it, and moving the control lever to allow the fluid to move.

You could also jump the idle cut off solenoid. And then, jump the starter, to get it to run, so you could load it on a trailer. But, this requires some experience to do.

Please report your findings, for future reference.

I don't think this is an interlock issue. On my 2610, when I turn the key to the right, I will always hear the fuel pump run regardless of any interlock. An open interlock will just cause the starter to not engage.

That is a good point. Assuming there aren't multiple issues.

Unfortunately, we may never know.

Newbies who post once, never to be heard from again, are not that uncommon on TBN.
