Pro's / Con's?

I am considering a purchase for one. I am a serious hobby, repair person that would like a machine like this with the multi purpose capability.

People that have them seem to like them but the biggest con is the price. Personally I think they are about $500 too much for what they are. They have a relatively low duty cycle and the multi-process is kind of a gimmick. Yes they will TIG, Stick and MIG weld but you have to realize they won't TIG aluminum and to add a foot pedal etc. costs even more money. Any DC stick welder can be set up for TIG welding steel/stainless for not a lot of money. For the $2000 they cost, I think you could buy 2 separate machines for about the same money.

Arc Weld is right. Miller came to the game late. Thermal Arc offers more for less. Everlast does as well. I've tested the Millermatic 200 and it was nice, but a bit more complex than it needed to be I think for what most people are looking to get from it. The compact design was ingenious but at the same time, I did not like the plastic feel, though I know it is tough. A foot pedal for TIG is a reasonable expectation for a machine this price, and by the time you add all the things up to get one, you've got a fancy MIG with the capability to do what you want, but no way of doing it because of all the "add ons" you must purchase to do so. With that said, there are several people here that have bought one. I am sure they will chime in and can give you a better, overall feel of likes/dislikes...hopefully.

Arc weld, Mark,

Thank You both for the reply / info. This how we learn together on this great web site. Looking forward for more info from others to help in my decision.

You get what you pay for, it's spendy buy WORTH IT for me. It's lunch box size is AMAZING. It welds aluminum like butter. I bought one after I was jerked around by local welders. I bought the machine, the spool gun, helmet, gloves, supplies AND I STILL spent less than I was quoted for the job. I did the job, customer loved it, I got paid, ended up with free equipment plus some cash out of the deal.
Mind you, I never welded a thing before in my life and I tackled 1/8" aluminum without a hitch. This thing runs off 110 or 220, so you can take it anywhere and plug it in and go. Like I said It's lunch box size makes it PERFECT to haul around.
For what I need this thing is perfect. Do a you tube search some guys are using this in their welding business as a field unit.
Once you get it the price you paid will disappear in the ease of use.

Talked with Mark from Everlast. Great discussion about my needs.
Went with the Everlast Power Tig 200DX. It will be here next week. Will post a follow up!
Saved $$$$$ by not buying a multi process unit.

I have the "Millermatic" 200 (actually the name is Multimatic 200). Excellent portable dual voltage machine. Welds as well as the Millermatic Passport or 150STH. Yes, it is expensive and yes you can trust that parts and repairs will not be a problem in the future and yes it will have an excellent resale value just like other Miller products. I sold my Passport and 150STH for what I paid for them (both purchased slightly used) and that funded the Multimatic.

Try selling an Everlast on Craigslist when your needs change.

Island Tractor,

The Multimatic 200 is DC only in TIG. For Aluminum you have to use the spool gun, I wanted AC/DC in TIG and this unit has that feature that I can use for intricate repairs on aluminum.
My old Lincoln AC 225 and Hobart 187 have served my needs, but wanted aluminum capability. Now I will have stick DC to supplement the Lincoln, and AC for TIG. I don,t plan on
selling any of my tools, machines etc. Just hope the grand kids have learned something from me and they can use them when the passage comes.
