I've got a couple of boggy areas with this grass. It's common here in wet boggy type areas. But it occurs to me.... I don't know what it even is. And what's the best way to control this. Mowing couldn't be done unless we had a severe drought, and even then.... Well there's springs many places around here and a wet boggy area is the results.

Once you have identified the plant (I think Fossil Farm has nailed it, but you may want to confirm), you could use a herbicide for eradication if that is your objective. Rodeo is a glyphosate-based herbicide that is labeled for aquatic environments -- A Landowner's Guide for the Control of Phragmites: Invasive & Exotic Species - Wildlife and Heritage Service - Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

That stuff grows around here also, invasive as all get out. Glyphosate is marginally effective, takes several applications to kill it.

I've got a small patch that got dose #2 last weekend.

Kowboy did some googling before i posted without much luck, and tbis forum is my go to source. Many knowledgeable people here. Thanks for the link I'll try it out.

Containing this stuff to just the wettest area is my goal for now. Early in the year i used roundup on a batch.... And it took it out. It's definitely wanting to spread out.

Just mow it to control it. Everytime you use glyphosate you are polluting the ground with toxins that kill stuff, animal, bugs/bees/birds.

Funny, they make it sound worse than DDT. The LD (Lethal Dose) of Glyphosate is about as safe as an herbicide can be. If it was so bad as they say, it would be restricted use, meaning one would need to be licensed to purchase it. Remember Paraquat ?? Now that was nasty stuff.

Been reviewing their "findings" for awhile now. Have not found a single real documented study with legit findings yet. Just a big whine about Monsanto. One section says glyphosate is tolerable but Roundup is terrible. Put anything on the internet and make it look official and you can get away with it.

Not sure of the name, but I see it here in wet areas. I do recall one neighbor "controlling" it, which made the wet area worse. In retrospect, it makes sense, as the plants were surely drinking up a lot of the water. So make sure you have a good reason to eliminate it unless you like mud!!

That actually crossed my mind.

Think I'm going to try and mow the edges a bit more and.... hope..... I don't get stuck. Then call it good. This stuff really grows tall. I manged to mow down one area, it was wayyyy above the tractor.
