Currently 36. The mesonet site says it's already warmed up a bit from a low of 31. Headed to about 70. Was suppose to be around that yesterday but I don't think it ever got out of the 50s.

Back to the mill today. Popular is done for this round and started on the cedar.

Really wish the TBN app would show everyone's location. One thing I miss about using the internet for site access. But app is much easier to read.

Looks like the middle of October is going to turn stormy and nasty for a lot of us. The great pumpkin will not be happy not happy one bit. Some people in the Midwest and northeast will see snow and ice. Not a good omen for those who dislike winter.

Still to early for winter forecast yet

Sun rise was beautiful this morning shimmering off the Atlantic. Wow just wow am always in awe at what Mother Nature can create. The older I get the more I appreciate these things

Spent some time in your neck of the woods in the early 80s selling jail equipment to counties and cities but so long ago probably would get lost now. Western Kentucky has some beautiful areas that's for sure

Beautiful and cool morning. Sun is rising over the pastures with a clear blue sky and 56*. Should be another great day outside, with highs in the mid 80s and low humidity.

May everyone have a happy and productive day.

45F and sunny @ 09:45 ...

Went to fire up the furnace in the house yesterday and couldn't get it to stay lit ... seems like the flame sensor is relatively new - it sure looked it ... I cleaned it off anyways.

Also pulled out the little compressor and took a wire brush taped to a gun cleaning rod and cleaned the burners off and blew them and the heat exchanger out ... same deal: lights right up ... but the flame goes out after a few seconds ...

It's an old Rheem Imperial - built in '86 or '88 I think - so it's not surprising it's having some issues.

Looks like we'll be spending a little time today cleaning out the wood furnace and hauling wood down to the house ...

Interesting. I never would have thought about the need to sell jail equipment. It does have a nice terrain. I haven't spent much time in your area but what I have seen is just as beautiful.

rsway, not much left for working power when you have 500 lbs out on end of FEL.

Ron, I'm about to put my WR Long grapple back on and it is sized for an M not an L. Way too heavy out front and
the FEL won't curl worth a darn. But I love the thing, absolutely indestructible, like the subsoiler I bought from Long also. What I really need to work in dense woods is a nice used M without a cab and that's when my grapple would shine.
Drew,

Do you have the Long OBG grapple (longer tines out front) ... or the RGB ?

Nice to hear that you've had good luck with it. TBN member NHBotanut who sent me a bunch of pictures of his RGB2-48 grapple ... he has broken a number of tips off the tines of his (on a B7610) Interestingly, I don't think he does much root raking with it ... mostly just handling logs.

Now I'm headed into dense deep woods with a cab tractor that I really don't want busted up.
Hmmm, now where to store another tractor...:D
LOL ... that's the spirit !

I have a two ton tractor now, plus a little. Sure would like a four ton tractor for grip and capacity, particularly dealing with large trees. With filled tires and a ballast box out back, I'm not lifting the tires anymore; my tractor just doesn't have the power to do what the grapple is capable of. And I want what the grapple is capable of doing, not my unimpressive hydraulics.
When I cleared the pad for the polebarn (which was in the woods) I mostly used our backhoe to dig out the stumps ... was pretty time consuming. A grapple and bigger tractor would have been very handy for that.

Fortunately I had some good friends and neighbors who had that kind of equipment who willing to donate their time and equipment to get the pad completed:

TBN member JASTN70D with his New Holland TN70 and grapple and 8' boxblade:

My next door neighbor Jeff, his son, and grandson contributed a 1 ton dump truck, a JD 310, and Bobcat 763, and TBN member PineRidge brought his New Holland TC40.

And what a wonderful excuse for "checking out" the used tractor lots...good winter project. Too much else to do now.
Sounds like a plan ... ;)

In looking for grapple weight and strength hard to obtain but with different alloys can be obtained
Very good point ...

I didn't try to go for anything exotic, not knowing all the different types of steels and alloys ... as far as I know the materials I'm using are all just mild steel ... probably A36 ...

B tractor grapples should be made of Beryllium. :)
LOL ... as an alloying element, it looks like it might have it uses ...

Not sure I'd want to do much grinding (or welding) on a Beryllium alloy tho' ... :D
