Using rear remotes for a grapple

I would absolutely get a diverter valve so that you can get a 3rd function on the loader curl with a push button on the joystick. If you place it on the loader arm after the original 4 QDs, it's very cost efficient.

A solenoid diverter valve switches between two circuits, and the curl lever controls the final output, and can be feathered.

A 3rd function valve uses a solenoid to operate a cyl at full flow. It is usually in the series flow path after the FEL valve.

Well, I don't agree on the nomenclature. 3rd and 4th function are just names of aux hydraulic outlets on the FEL. How they are implemented is another question. On a modern loader, diverter valves is the standard solution to get 3rd & 4th function as well as hydraulic implement locking.

If you order a new Alo-Quicke loader and specify 3rd and 4th function you will get a double diverter valve on the lower cross-bar. You will not get additional circuits from the tractor hydraulics and 4 extra hoses to connect between tractor and loader.

I also think it' s a much better solution for most tasks.

If you have two remotes, you can do T-N-T .

JJ, A newbie question. What is T-N-T and what can you use it for. Trying to learn the acronyms. Thanks

Well it is not an explosive:). TNT is shorthand for Top-N-Tilt. Meaning the top link jackscrew of your 3pt hitch is replaced with a hydraulic cylinder and the Side link or sometimes called the Tilt jackscrew of your 3pt hitch is replaced with a hydraulic cylinder. What good is this you say? Well it can be used for many things, one example would be when using a rear blade either box or grader blade, you can adjust the top link from the seat on the fly as you are using it instead of stopping the tractor, getting off, adjusting the top link manually by screwing in or out the jackscrew, getting back on and checking your angle of attack on the blade, and deciding it is not right and repeating this over and over until you are satisfied with the angle.

Likewise the Tilt angle of a blade can be adjusted as for example when making a ditch by a road you can adjust the the angle as needed without getting off of the tractor. All of this is to just have the ability to make these adjustments quickly from the seat. I can tell you that without TNT, (which I don't have). Grading and spreading dirt in a precise manner without it can result in a lot of trips on and off the tractor.

Also TNT can be a great aid getting hooked up when using a quick hitch to match up with implements that may have settled into the ground unevenly.

It can also be useful to carry implements higher when transporting them, and for a mower to be able to raise it higher to accommodate backing up a very steep bank or hill. There are probably a lot of other uses for it, but I don't have it so I wouldn't know.:(

So James K0UA - several years have passed. You still using this grapple method and how do you rate it. I'm giving some thought to it. Kioti now offers 3rd function and dealer said about $1,000 installed..

Yes, still using it and this method, and on a Kioti with the conveniently located rear remote lever, and extended the 4 inches, I rate it A+. I would not put the electric over hydraulic on if someone gave me one. I would sell the 3rd function for money. I especially like this method because I can "feather" the amount of squeeze easily and probably because I have become so good at operating it. Now if the lever was beside you or some other location not handy, it would be a PITA. I think the Kioti is unique in placing the lever so strategically with only needing to extend it to become Really effective and fall to hand naturally.

Same with the use of rear remotes for my front plow. Works great. No issues at all. And way way cheaper

Great to hear, with my NX they are beside me. I have 3 rear remotes and the front one is detent for my backhoe. Thought about just switching the front and rear levers then see about making a handle for the front. But if I cant come up with a factory look I won't do that. May look at it when there is heat in the air..think spring.
