Thoughts on mounting a 2500b winch on BX?

Okay a long awaited update here... and for those who are like me, some projects evolve more than they get promptly completed. I did finally decide on mounting method and came up with a quick attach hitch receiver that does not alter the BX by using existing holes on front chassis. I have mechanically attached the hitch and can 'plug' in the winch but still have the electrical to install. I can now hitch mount a winch or a ball, hook, whatever now. No tools are required and it can be installed and used with FEL on. So... getting there. :licking:

Looking good, dragoneggs.

Is there a point up front to mount a clevis so you can run your winch line out to a snatch block and come back to anchor to?

I didn't get to read all the responses, so you may have this covered....do you have plans for an auxiliary battery for longer run time or an inline circuit breaker? Some of the bigger winches with advanced features have the ability to monitor motor temperature and can prevent damage from long run times. The old stand by of "it is to hot to hold your hand on the motor, then you need to let it rest" works, also,

Good luck with your endeavor.

Sounds like a pretty clever set up. I'd be interested to see closeup of your mounting bracket/setup using the frame holes.

Looks good I'm sure that's going to come in handy. Now if you make long enough leads with some type of clip or clamp you could use it on other things also with a receiver mount. I was kind of thinking along the same lines as you when I installed this for a future winch mount and currently for moving trailers.

Apologies to all for the delay here replying and updating status... dang work getting in the way again.

Yes, Doc! Thank you... I indeed plan to fabricate some type of clevis or D ring and mount it to the BX using the two open holes on the brush guard that are immediately above where the winch is mounted.

Yes, an aux battery would be ideal... still hunting for inconspicuous space. Definitely need a solid in line fuse or breaker.

Thanks Thomas! Well actually I am not celebrating just yet as I have only mastered the mechanical attachment which I am very happy with. Electrical connection without damaging the rig is next!

GA, you wish is my command... just that it takes a little longer than a snap of your fingers for me to respond. Here is a pic of the uninstalled unit. Consists of a hitch receiver and two QA pins.

1. Takes less than 20 seconds to install!
2. Requires no tools to install!
3. Does not require any modification to tractor!

I am interested in some more pix too, and your evaluation of the current draw, and whether you really need another battery or not, or is what you got going to work for you. And how pleased you are so far with the whole project. It sounds pretty easy to take on and off, and you may have hit on something that is marketable.

Thanks for the pic - I don't know why I was having so much trouble trying to understand how you were doing it, but it's clear now. Pretty neat!
