Will be watching this for sure. All the best to you and your wifey on your new home.

Do you have a big code enforcement in your area? Seems to be where many get frustrated.

We dun need no steenking code enforcement!

We're outside the city, and the county does basically nothing. Having said that, we are building with the understanding that insurance deserves a quality structure and any future sale could hinge on meeting code for lending. To date, my only "code" requirements have come from the rural electric coop ... Now that guy can quote the manual backwards! lol

Good news. Sounds like rural Texas.

I'll trade you 10 acres for one of your mountains

I searched for the perfect mountain for you. It has a great view. A little cold in the winter.

Sometimes, you just have to be there ...

The basement dig was completed and the crew was about to set their forms. Concrete had already been ordered for the next day. At least that was the plan, until I asked .... "Are you sure this is wide enough?" LOL

Turns out, the dozer stopped too soon! The pit was 3 feet too narrow. Now, I assume they would have caught this when they started building forms - but it likely would have cost a day or two in delay. Problem solved :)

Moving forward, the pit was enlarged to the proper size and a line was set to build the basement stem walls. I could tell the line was going to leave us with a house having more of a westward slant than we wanted. Our best view was about 5 degrees west of north and they had laid out closer to 10 degrees. Thankfully, there was enough overdig on the pit to allow a shift in the line without bringing the dozer back in. "This" problem would not have been caught and we would have had to live with it - unless we really wanted to get nasty.

This is more her style, so we'll throw this mountain in too and call it a deal.:)

Man they are moving quick on your home----framing before ya know it. Like the rolls in the background of the middle picture.

261 rolls this time. That's up 30 from last spring's cut.

Yes, they're making great time. I'll have basement walls before the end of the week.

Are you growing hay for your own use, or do you sell it?
I'd like to get where I can grow enough for me and still sell some. I would need water rights to get at that point though. If I could get up to about 15 cows I'd be a happy camper. Time and money is all I need.

The only animals we run are our 5 dogs and a cat. Unfortunately, they do not eat hay.

The entire cut is sold on a 2:1 agreement to a really great guy/family I met through the Kioti dealership in Joplin. We get the pastures cut, he gets a good deal and we get enough $$$ to pay for herbicide, fertilizer and at least 1 new farm toy each time.

We've worked REALLY hard to regain control of our pastures. They were neglected for 20 years ... then I married the owner :) As you can see in a few of the pics, it is CLEAN - no briars, no thistle. We're very happy with what we've accomplished.
