When I was a kid, a cord of wood was 4x4x8, but that was when gas was .27 cents a gallon, cigarettes where .35 a pack (glad I don't smoke) and a dollar was actually worth something.

called for wood pellet prices today. $265 per ton. I just kind of silently said wow. at that price, not sure it pays to supplement my geothermal heat with the pellets.

Went to the HS football game tonight, our HS won.

Kev. Here's an article for you from UGA about the Bahia grass. It says 12-15 lbs per acre. The Management and Use of Bahiagrass | Publications | UGA Extension

If you was going with perineal ryegrass then I'd go about 20 lbs for my area. Don't know about Florida. But should be close.

WOW Very helpful! So far it says I am doing good other than seed per acre. The first year I planted "Pensacola Bahia" 25# per it was soooo thin and sad looking, not even the goats were interested. This spring I re-planted at 50# per and it is a perfect pasture supporting 2 horses and a very small bull (goats are in the woods still). The winter rye here is an annual rye, but again only gets covered by 1/4 to 1/2 inch of soil so the chain harrow does a fine job on it. FYI I am only 45 minutes from the GA line. I have cross fenced everything so that I have 2 back pastures of 4 acres ea, 2 side pastures of 2 acres each, and 2 front pastures of about 3 acres each. Both front and one side are still wooded. I figure by the time I get the last one planted, I get to start all over again doing one pasture a year. LOL I am also only doing pasture grass because there is nothing big enough to hay out.

That's $6.625 per 50lb sack. How long will a sack last?

Good morning all.

For a few years now I have promised my wife I would turn the old and now roofless 5 bay cattle shed into a walled garden. It went slightly astray last year when she wanted the soil improving. While a big excavator was here, I had the top 2 feet of dirt removed and stacked in the field, ready to be replaced by lots of well rotted farmyard manure. I thought she would be pleased, but it turned out I have a typical man brain, with virtually no telepathic ability. It wasn't what she had in mind at all - she wanted all the soil back again, with raised beds on top. After being married for 38 years, at least I know when not to ask "why didn't you say ..."

So last winter I set to bringing back the soil, with a scoop on the 3 point link of the fergie. Hard work when the soil is full of stone, requiring it all to be hand shovelled into the scoop. Then winter turned wetter and gave me the excuse I needed to stop, not even half way through.

Each time you all mention your gardens I feel guilty at not finishing this off, so with the old battered brick wall finally rendered and painted, it was time I got on with the job again. Yesterday I set to get back to that blank canvas, though this time with a loader and bucket, the Iseki did all the hard work in return for a good drink of diesel.

[Iseki didn't want to come over as all smug and offend the old fergie, so declined to be included in the picture]

Now I need to find out some more about constructing the raised beds. Only stipulation from the boss is that they must be made from timber and have good paths between.

up early, though not "Roy Early".
Rain is due in, again, this afternoon. Good thing I got my mowing done yesterday.Today I am off early for an hour drive South to New Bern where an old Hatteras 42 LRC (long range cruiser) sits. Totally different than what I've looked at so far, a project boat, needs to be totally redone, but it has good bones. And a boat with a 1000 mile range, which means Bermuda is in reach. Never done a night watch (3 days and nights on the water) nor that level of blue water, but a long range slow boat like this opens up that possibility. Most boats have a range of 300 miles or less based on size of tanks and consumption.
Hatteras factory is right there in New Bern, so a winter project has some possibility. And to be more realisitic, I'm seeing a 36 Sabreline (built in Maine) the following friday on the way to Pa. That boat is likely turnkey and I could simply drive away. The problem with the old Hatt is that it has zero options, no equipment on board, no electronics like radar or even an autopilot. So everything would have to be added/replaced. Which could be fun, if it all adds up under a final number which would allow me to resell the boat someday and get most of my money out of it. Just as important not to over-improve a boat as it is a house. Ok, enough about boats on a tractor forum.

Going to install my fold down work "desk" in the barn this afternoon, good project while it rains. Got the hardware at TSC and I should be good to go. I really would like to take it down to the local metal shop and get them to lay a thin piece of steel on top. This will be my primary chain saw working spot so would be nice if it wouldn't absorb oil. Currently old blue formica on it now. Yes I'll take a pic.

have a great weekend guys.
