Power wings for snow blade-converts to pusher

Nice. Was going to ask why you needed the chains, for support or to attach to a winch to let the wings adjust back. Then I finally got the video to play.

Interesting concept. What is twisting the rod to lift the wings? Hydraulics, electric motor or linear actuator?

A 4" actuator moves a lever arm welded to the pivot bar.I had to make the arm short and made two L-shaped plates to stabilize the rod,to get enough rotational movement. The wings are 5/8 UHMW and the pivot rod is 3/4" steel with 3/4" all thread welded on each end.



Some closeup shots of the pivot ends.I used chain because I had it lying around.Could use wire,cable,rope,whatever.



Might be hard to see but there is a slot in the UHMW that a 3/8" bolt rides in to lift the end plates.The bolt is fastened to a short arm that's welded to the pivot bar.I drilled the blade ribs out to 7/8" and used brass flange bushings.

Glad you added that the wings were UHMW as otherwise steel would have bin a 'tad overkill' LOL.
Nice concept and workmanship. Clever.

I also have one wing, totally manual (but easy to remove) but very effective as I then have only one side spilling over.
I figure it saves me 40% time when cleaning larger areas.
I found that using one wing was more productive than angling my blade. Also angling tended to push the front sideways and play **** on the front wheels as I often needed to crab when the loads were excessive.
An added benefit was that the piled up snow looked neater and as well I could push and lift the 'loads' up and over.

This is a super construction locknut. You have a good mechanical mind.....and patience to see it through.

This was easier than some of my previous projects.The front disc brake project on a poorly conceived AWD Simplicity Prestige was a little tougher.A one piece wheel/rotor to keep the front wheeltrack as narrow as possible.In stock form this tractor,with hydraulic front drive,had the same downhill tractive ability as a two wheel tractor with no locking rear end.After the brakes were added it would stop dead in its tracks on a 35 deg bank.

I like the convertible plow /pusher idea! Nice work.

I put SAM wings on my RTV plow and it helps a ton. Just wish they were adjustable on the fly.
