Just recently bought a 2310 been sitting for at least one year. Owner not sure on how to activate PTO. By pushing the button on left of column nothing happens other than it lights up..there is a switch on right side of dash below key that has three positions(auto, off, manual). Since I do not have an owners manual was wondering if someone could tell me what to do so I don't break it, lol. Also the start position does not energize starter but can jump solenoid and starter works. Traced wiring and see two different type relays and not sure if that might be it or not, no manuals to trace out wiring schematic Any info or GOOD (lol) advice appreciated. Saw post from years ago by TEXAN4LIFE about pto solenoid on side of trans. Have not gone out to try that as it is raining here and don't feel like laying in the mud. Thanks in advance

If it's anything like the 2538 here is a video - Mahindra 2538 PTO Functions - YouTube

The way it works on the 6065 is auto mode (I think, never used it), the PTO engages when you let out on the clutch and cuts off when you step on the clutch. Manual mode (the way I use it) is when you turn on the PTO it engages, assuming the PTO lever is not in neutral

I believe there is a shifter to put it in 540. The auto switch disengages the PTO when you raise the 3pt hitch and re-engages when you lower 3pt hitch. The starter not engaging probably is related to one of the safety switches. Hope this helps.

Ok. Thanks for the info...no lever for engagement of PTO. Only the electric button and the other switch (manual, off, auto). I put the switch in manual, then pushed the electric... PTO WORKED. Engine RPM has to be up to get 540 but it is marked on tach. Have looked for safety switches for starting but not seeing will have to wait until I can locate a wiring schematic to find them. I have put a jumper bypass in for now, yeah I know to make sure not in gear etc..no safeties on my other tractors. Thanks again

Make sure you engage the PTO with the engine at idle... if it stalls with the implement on ramp it up a couple hundred RPM and engage. Just making sure you are not engaging the PTO with the RPM's at 540.

Actually auto mode is used in conjunction with the three point lift. If PTO is engaged in AUTO mode, it kicks on when you drop the 3pt lift and turns off when you raise it. Good example of an ideal use for this is rototilling.

Sorta depends on the implement. Rototillers do fine engaging at 540 as there is no play in the operation and there isn't a lot of mass in the rotating components. Rotary cutters and similar that have free swinging parts will bang around and engage very violently at 540, so should be started at idle and RPMs slowly ramped up. Some implements like post hole diggers should always be ran at low RPM.

Thank you! I have not fully read the manual - just skimmed the section and realized I needed manual mode for the cutter.
