Kioti 3054
I have a Kioti 3054, about 15 years old. Last fall, I noticed that there didn't seem to be any performance difference between second and third gears. First is properly slow, Fourth is properly speedy (on both high and low axles). But third is barely faster than second. I did a few tests; set speed with one value of rpm, drove forward timing the period driving past two trees about 50 yards apart. Nearly the same, based on bumpy reading of timer on cell phone. Hydraulic level is fine, right on the line on the little window. Any suggestions appreciated.

Are you describing a manual shift transmission or a hydro static.

If its a manual and you have an owners manual, often there is a table of spec's regarding the transmission.
Some provide actual gear ratios and others road speeds in each gear.

Manual transmission. No indication of gear ratios and road speeds in the manual.

On the kioti.com web site your tractor does not come up in a search.

Could you photograph the plate or label on your tractor which would show the serial number.

If you are concerned with publicly showing this info, email it to me or PM it.

Knowing you have manual transmission and you have good high speed performance, clearly you don't have clutch slipping issues.

Is this current situation a new one, in other words have things changed? It is not uncommon to have gear ratios close together particularly with gears you would be more likely to use when doing heavy field work. In those situations you are trying to operate the tractor at the best possible point on its power curve to maximize fuel economy.

Hello Dave. the sticker on the side of the tractor says LK3054 with this number beneath it: 5265-00257

This has developed over the past 3 years or so. I sort of vaguely noticed it a while ago, then I hired a fellow to do some mowing for me, and he told me the same thing. I don't remember it being like this years ago. 2nd and 3rd weren't hugely different, but appreciably so. Now, not so much. Note that I don't do "heavy field work." the biggest job she has done for me over the years is plow snow. Now, not so much even that (I hired a guy to do it). contact me at dmoerman (at) umich.edu

I have filled out Kioti.com's technical info request forum asking for gear ratios or road speeds in each gear.

I cannot find your model in their list of their tractors. What year is it? Did you buy it new?

Once I hear back, I will advise.

Does your phone have a GPS feature which will show you speeds?

EDIT

There is an excellent web site which sells WSM's for $10 and immediate download. I bought one previously to help another Kioti owner andwas very impressed with the quality.

They show a WSM for a LK30 so I emailed them about an LK3054

The owners manual for my '04 LK3054xs shows travel speeds of (low range) 1st, .87mph 2nd, 1.2mph 3rd, 1.7mph, 4th, 2.7mph (high range) 5th, 4.1mph 6th, 5.6mph 7th 8.0mph and 8th, 12.5mph. Listed tire size of 7-14, 4PR front and 11.2-24, 4PR rear. My unit was supplied with 25x8.5x14 front and 15-19.5 rears(industrials). I don't know how mine compares with the manual listed tires. Your unit should be the same as I don't believe they changed gearing from the 3054 to the 3054xs

This info from Patches makes things very clear.
2nd at 1.2 mph to 3rd at 1.7 mph is a very small change. Barely noticeable and likely what you are seeing as little difference because actually it was designed that way.

With a non slipping clutch and no terrible sounds coming from inside the transmission there is no other explanation than all is well.

If I hear from Kioti I will be back

A previous reply of mine seems to be missing here. I bought the tractor in 1995; LM 3054. I'm going to assume it's really fine. I don't have a phone GPS but will try to find one, and use that to check next time I'm out working.

Thanks all for your help. Much appreciated.

The tractor label you posted a photo of says LK3054 not LM3054.... a typo or am I missing something
