3 different spots w/lots plastic in road ditches.

I think I heard the cheering from the auto body shops down here Thomas!

one always has to know the limits of adhesion...
I think part of the problem is reliance on all season tires. We think they do everything but they don't.
Driving snowy roads with 4wd/awd and snow tires is just so much fun.
sure beats bags of sand in the trunk like the old days.
Firestone snow tires that would howl going down the dry road.

My Father had zero understanding of cars but he did understand snow tires, knowing
he had to get to the train station to get to work. Because while I had to plow the long gravel driveway on our farm so he could
get the car out, he was on his own from there. And often the roads weren't plowed yet.
There was always a feeling of self reliance, you didn't let a little snow get in your way.

No Ma'am texting and losing control go hand in hand on a snowy road...
two hands on the wheel in bad weather.
Seems like whole generations aren't learning common sense.

hope everyone drives safely around you Thomas. Including the critters.

Need to pour first cup of coffee. 12° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 33° with sunny skies. Brrrr! Not planning any outside projects today. Wifes doctor appointment went well. New doctor next visit. Current doctor is moving to a hospital in downtown Detroit.

Wngsprd, last time I was at a SS office. I made an appointment for my visit. Waited about 10 minutes. Call 1-800-772-1213 to make an appointment. No online appointment scheduler.

Looking, glad you got drain repaired. My 3" drain has a cleanout. Had to use it one time in over 40 years. But the problem was joint at cleanout had broken. Had to dig it out to repair.

Drew. nice tractor. What do you use the hay for?

LS, good save for your daughter. Hope she gets that nasty loan paid off soon.

RNG, hope you get back to your home soon. RV friends posted this event yesterday. You may not make it this year but may be something you want on your list. Busses By the Bridge.

Good Morning All.

Ron, coastal hay has very little weed seeds in it. Also nicely sweet smelling. Will use for mulch in vegetable garden where plastic is not used.
Wheat straw last year was a disaster. I used coastal hay in PA and it worked well, just till it in at end of year. I need to get more organic material into the sandy soil here so this helps. Am told the best coastal hay is harvested close to the ocean, salt air helping to sterilize the plant in some way.
Coastal hay on top and mushroom soil added on the bottom. The latter not being available here, would do wonders to enrich the sandy soil.

When I was growing up in the 50's and 60's, my father always carried chains in the trunk. Granted, chains are a PITA when going from a snow covered roads to plowed then back to snow covered. 4WD vehicles were few and far between back then...Jeeps, some farm trucks and occasional (but rare) utility vehicle.
And, you're right...people were much more self-reliant in those days (rather then dialing 9-1-1 for every little thing)

21 degrees this morning, going for a high of 47. I know that's not all that cold to you folks up north, but it's an exceptionally cold start to the Winter for us. But at least it's supposed to be clear and sunny for a few days and no rain in the forecast until at least next Tuesday.

Around here wheat straw is what you want. Nice looking yellow. Prices for small square bales start at $3. Not the big square bales I have seen. They are 14 X 18 X 36.

well you must have neutered wheat straw because this stuff at that price had so many seeds, which
then started to grow a crop of wheat in between the tomatoes and peppers. Left it on side of garden as seats,
and mushrooms would grow out of it. Must be the variety of wheat.

Good morning! I'm there down there with the Northern guys this morning at 24˚. The 9PM news last night predicted 22 so we had to dolly our citrus into the garage that we brought from the country - Orange, lemon and a satsuma tree. We had 13 oranges and we have 5 large lemon on the tree.

Even though we have a Horticulture club with wonderful organic gardens I'm still undecided if I want to join or do a backyard garden. The garden is on the other side of the neighborhood - about 6 miles away. I still have a few months to decide. The $30 a year pays for your water tap in the garden 20' raised bed and all the organic mulch and compost you can use. The overage at the gardens is donated to a food pantry also.

Drew, my mom has coastal fields and the baled hay will sprout. It is also filled with weed seed or herbicides. I don't think your "coastal" hay is the same coastal hay we use down here, could you take a closeup pic of your hay? I remember, at one garden club meeting in the country, the cows that ate the hay, their manure was used in one person's garden and their garden died because of the herbicides in the manure. (He had the manure tested) Did you get organic hay? I can see how roundup can easily get into the food supply.

Most wheat straw we have here comes from wheat that is used for the cereal companies. Definitely not organic. When it's time to harvest there is not one spot of green in the field.

My hay bales I get for fall decorations have all got a fresh crop growing out the top now, time to haul them to the woods and get out the Christmas decorations.

39 and cloudy early, 44 now and that’s about it for the day, very heavy rain and wind moving in overnight.
I’m going to move a trailer for a friend, then go visit mom. Got my homemade spaghetti sauce in the crockpot.
