New M6060 - Arrived w/ 84" bucket. Not the 72". can keep or exchange. WWYD?

Soooo... the new 60 is here. It was trucked about 10 hours to my Parents for my pickup and trailer back home. By dealer error I now have the 84" over the 72" bucket.
  • Price was for the 72".. told to keep it or exchange locally.
  • The Loader manual/spec book lists the 84" as a light material bucket? Which is the first place I saw that note about the 84.... M1816
  • It does seem beefy, but not like my 72 HD on the L.
  • I now have the 48" forks... so no more using the bucket for non-bucket type chores.

I just wondered if you had any helpful stories or notes on why ya either loved it or hated the 84" or did not pick it? I live in mid MI.. so snow would be a plus I think? We do a lot of bucket work on the hobby ranch and hay farm. ...and Manure is manure and goes from here to there in the bucket. As the great song goes "Should I stay or should I go now"... tump thump..

...after typing this up.. I think I have my answer . But you guys and gals are all awesome sources of fun and good reasons.

PS- Wife said it's long enough to put down a camp mattress and my sleeping bag. Barn home guy bed. haha. I think she meant doghouse.

I've a 72" bucket and primarily "work in the woods" and haul gravel. I think the extra foot for me would reduce maneuverability and a FULL 72" bucket of wet gravel is getting close to my weight limit.

If it does not impact your maneuverability (can you turn around in your barns?) I'd say keep it. It's always good to be able to haul more manure.

What's the white bucket for?

It's a no brainer to me; keep it and be glad.

If you will mostly use it as a dirt/rock digger, get the other bucket. If you will use it to move snow, firewood, hay bales, equipment, manure, feed, etc. keep it. If the bucket is too big to have on all the time, take it off when you do other chores like your mowing.

Not sure what you plan to use the FEL/bucket for but the standard light material buckets are not very rugged.

I would be shocked if a local dealer where you did not buy the tractor would exchange buckets for you but if so, I would exchange for a HD 72" bucket, and gladly pay the difference.

That said, the larger bucket will be fine for snow work.

Agree. On the smaller tractor FEL buckets the light material is same construction, just wider and taller. If you are going to use bucket for dirt/rock mover, think about getting a toothbar (or piranha bar) for either.

Besides maneuverability, I went with the narrower bucket on one tractor because I felt the wider the bucket the more torque you put on the loader arms in certain situations. I think that is one of a few reasons "light materials bucket" is applied and named. It puts op on notice that manufacturer wants to avoid any culpability and place burden on owner.

Btw, nice tractor!

Re: New M6060 - Arrived w/ 84" bucket. Not the 72". can keep or exchange. WWYD?

I had a light duty bucket on my M135GX and on my current M7. Never had problems. Recently had a truck of gravel delivered to use on a forest road going to one of my fields - hunters trying to get down the road had got stuck, messed it up. It was 3 buckets to haul the gravel down the road to the damaged area. I think it would have taken a half a day to do the same thing with my L6060. Normally use the bucket for manure but has not had a problem moving gravel. Forks another issue. I bought heavy duty forks for my L5740 and used them with a Quick-Tach adapter on my M7. Broke both forks off on a heavy lift so I now have 7500 pound forks that match the lift capacity of the M7. On my L6060 the tractor lost a lot of lift capacity due to the weight of the forks.

Re: New M6060 - Arrived w/ 84" bucket. Not the 72". can keep or exchange. WWYD?

OP, very nice tractor! IMO, though, I agree that the 84" bucket will be too limiting for general use. Apart from loss of maneuverability compared to 72", the extra foot of cutting edge will reduce your ability to dig by nearly 17 percent due to decreased point load. Adding a conventional bar or a Piranha bar would help compensate for that. But a tooth bar will make maneuverability in close quarters, especially in the woods, even more of an issue. A Piranha bar less so, as it doesn't stick out as far.

Pretty much what MHarryE said, we have a HD on our L5740HSTC and 84" regular bucket on our M8540. I was initially skeptical on the lighter duty bucket, but lots of years of use convinced us it was the right choice.

Thanks everyone for the input! VERY MUCH APPRECIATED! You higher level members are really great here! Since we have the L2550 and 72 and now the M60 w/ 84... Pretty sure it'll stay. I'll need to learn as I go w/ the FEL and bucket. Will probably knock a few posts and corners I suppose. It's all about the journey and the lessons learned so they say.

By Spring, I usually have 15+ yards of manure to move around. and I hate the job. I'll definitely get the beet juice ballast, and I use my tiller for rear tip prevention. I MUST make sure the misses knows that a huge FEL payload means you must consider tipping w/ such a big bucket. Onwards folks. I am so excited to tackle some of those big jobs!

Best note that fits my use/style was from RD above:
If you will mostly use it as a dirt/rock digger, get the other bucket. If you will use it to move snow, firewood, hay bales, equipment, manure, feed, etc. keep it. If the bucket is too big to have on all the time, take it off when you do other chores like your mowing.
