TODAYS SEAT TIME

I got in a bit of firewood between yesterday and today. Found a couple cherry trees down, back a path close to house. Was nice yesterday, about 50º, so it was sloppy, but I pulled out the logs to the clearing by the highway, and got them cut, and about 2/3 of it split and hauled to the barn. The last third I split and stacked today, temp dropped to 20º and falling. Probly about 1/3 of a cord all told. One IBC basket full, part of another. We will mix it with good dry seasoned wood and likely burn it this season. It was all dead, so might be dryer than fresh cut green wood. We supplement with wood heat, but does knock down the gas furnace bill.
Uh, your tote is sideways...
So confused....

Thanks for the compliments on the roll cage. Building it, and wheel spacers, were mandatory for my WV hillside 117ac farm.

I fill the tote cage laying down, stack 2 rows, and thats all my poor lil tractor likes to handle. I'll flip it back upright to transport when full and to store, putting the top (only, cut off the bottom) of the plastic bladder over it for a roof to keep most the weather off the wood. I'm still perfecting my cage system, need pallet forks to handle them more effectively.

Yes to forks!

I have been doing wooden pallets but just picked up 20 totes. They're buried in a foot of new snow, but I need to figure out how I'm going to do it. Definitely doing that top cover method though, that's a given....

You can cut a 'door' on one side of the tote and load/unload wood through that.

I cut the bladders up and heat form one one part to make a rain cover. We get lots of rain for half the year and none the other half. The covers come off in the summer.

That's really hard on the axle and bearing too...

SR

Can't replace an axle or bearing after a rollover and you're dead... In WV it is simply known as survival.

I never noticed all the tractors in WV having the rears set that far apart... Perhaps it's extra steep where you live?

I've lived in WV my whole life and not seen any 100 acre plots that didn't have "extra steep" areas. Not all the tractors are set as wide as his, but the land in WV does necessitate going with a wider stance. Some more extreme than others. There are places on my land that could easily roll his tractor, even with the extra wide stance. I have no doubt his land is similar given the roll cage he opted to add and the background of many of his images.

WV is called "The Mountain State" for a reason.

Between this post and his next, he said it all.

I have a wife and 7 kids I want to be alive to grow old with, so the extra wheel bearring wear was factored in quite low in the decision making process. An extra 4.5" per side helped make the tractor very stable, and it goes anywhere I want it to. An honest 30* sidehill, and will climb up 45*, coming down steeper sections. Lil 3005 gets worked at 100%+ alot of the time, I need something bigger when funds allow.

Last squall just stopped, almost time to go clean off the driveway from this mess. I really wish I had a cab machine for days like today.
