Been riding bikes over 55+ years w/out helmet and feel lot safer w/out helmet.
NH has no helmet law over certain age..."Let those ride decide"

Little choice here in WA state. It's the law. Ride w/out a helmet - you are a FLAMING ICON for LEO.

Besides - my full face helmet has deflected many bugs in its years of use. I HATE a juicy one straight in the mouth - but full contact with my eye - they can hear my screams over on the wet side.

I caught a rather large night bird called a brown thrush (we call them rain crows) in the face one night at 70 MPH. I woke up leaning back on the sissy bar and the bike was somewhere around 20mph or less by then. It kinda knocked me goofy for a few seconds. I was never so glad to be wearing a full face helmet.

Used to ride in college and shortly after. Got on my local Fire Dept. and picked up too many riders in serious accidents so I stopped riding. My wife and I still miss riding and I still have my '66 Honda 305 Dream but many of the accidents I responded to were the fault of someone driving a car or truck. Although it was a lot of fun, the thought of me or my wife being relegated to vegetative state is too much.

I caught a flicker( type of wood pecker ) right in the knee. His beak made a nice hole in my knee. I remember all this because of the pain - how close I came to going down - and the shot I got to stave off secondary infection. Around here in the late summer its all the grasshoppers out on the road. Get home and my jeans are just slimy green from my knees to my ankles. Ride slower - the green slime will move up to your chest & upper arm area.

In '70 - I got T-boned by a woman gunning it from a stop sign, didn't see me - I was wearing a bright yellow rain poncho, it was about noon. As her bumper hit me I looked down and saw my boot and ankle being crushed between the bumper and the transmission case. I flew over the handlebars through the air into oncoming traffic, rolled a few times after I hit, took me several minutes to crawl back and turn the bike off, the engine was at WOT. Spent several weeks in the hospital. Ankle is still a problem to this day. I'm pretty sure if I had not had the helmet on the ankle would have been buried with 1970, along with the rest of me.

I think anyone who rides without one should be required sign away any right to compensation for head injuries to ensure that those of us that do wear helmets don't have to pay higher rates. Go ahead, take the risk, just don't make me pay for YOUR poor decision.

Was the bike OK?

Sorry, couldn't resist. ;). I've hit two cars turning left in front of me. Didn't get inured fortunately. Dented their doors in pretty good, though. Also got knocked over in slow motion by an old guy at a stop light trying to squeeze between a car in the left turn lane and me in the straight lane. He almost smeared me into the car to my right. Yikes.

Insurance covered the damage to the bike, it wasn't too bad. It was a 250CC Suzuki street bike. Now if I had been riding my '59 Harley FLH dresser she might have noticed me :)
