First off I know this isn’t the commercial lawn mower forum but I thought I’d ask anyway. My Grasshopper 72” cut is just too big for a lot of jobs. I’ve been looking at the stand up mowers. I don’t want a belt drive unit and I don’t want a walk behind unit with dolly to stand on. I’ve been looking at the true stand on mowers with the hydraulic drive. I’ve read accounts ranging from one end of the spectrum to the next. So claim they beat the snot out of you. Some claim they ride better than a sit on mower. I’d really imagine they ride better since your knees are meant to take shock and your spine isn’t. Some people claim they do awful on hills. Some claim they do good. I have no plans of retiring the Grasshopper so I don’t really care how fast they mow. I’m after the smaller and more precise package that fits through gates and doesn’t scalp as bad. I’ll get a demo unit in the spring to try for myself but until then I’m stuck reading about them.

i rode a toro grandstand for a summer mowing 400 acres of campgrounds. It was awesome for doing ditches and tight quarters around campers. my legs would be beat after a day of mowing but it was a really good tool for the job. IIRC they were 48" units.

I have a Toro SS3200 zero turn to do my trim mowing.
Works well for me for about 8 years.
About $2,600 new.

I have a Wright Sentar. It's the best of both worlds. It can be operated as a stand-up, or fold the seat down and ride. The operator sits behind the rear axle and there's nothing behind the operator. If it runs away down a steep hill, just step off the back and let it go. It has a 25hp Kawasaki engine, 61" cut. I also have a Ferris tricycle type, same width and I prefer the Wright.
Head down Hwy 68 to the 26 mile marker on the other side of I-75 and I'll show it to you.

I appreciate the offer but hopefully when spring gets here the mower dealer is going to let me take one for a day and try it out. Unfortunately without scheduling a demo with an area rep that I’m sure has more strings attached than bring it back tonight a Ferris is my only demo option. I don’t dislike Ferris but I’m not limited to buying that option.

I have no plans of retiring the Grasshopper as I cut several 3 acre or bigger places and so this mower won’t see any big jobs and I probably won’t be on this machine for more than 30 minuets at a time without a rest to trim/blow and drive to the next job. I suppose the possibility exists that my Grasshopper would be down for repair and I’d be forced to use this until it was fixed, but the intended usage is short durations. It would probably take 5 hours to cut my biggest current job with a 48” mower.

30 minutes on one wouldn't be bad at all. I spent 12-14 hours a day 6 days a week on it. The thing ran from sun up to sun down all summer

We have a 61" Wright Sport X mower which, like the Sentar, can be operated as a stand-up or sit-down. We really like it.

I have a Wright Sentar with a 52" deck. It's been a good machine. I have owned it for about 8 years.
I have replaced couple coil packs, front tires just normal wear and tear things. The only thing that pained me replacing was the muffler...$330.00

I have a 52 Bradley mower that I am very happy with it after 1 year. It is a discount brand but has a good engine and transmission. My only issue has been that the deck fills up and needs to be cleaned every few hours.

Stand up mowers are fun to operate and have excellent visibility for mowing close to obstacles. They also do well over rough terrain. I would much rather soak up bumps with my knees than my ***.
