I've sold a single family house, CAT dozer, multiple vehicles and rented residential property on Craigslist.

The drawback is I do much better when I don't have people come to my Oakland home...

Not on option when using market place or I’m looking at 12:00 at night. And if your description didn’t suck to begin with I wouldn’t need to text 20 questions.
LOL, like the "Selling Chevy Suburban, runs good" with 3 fuzzy pictures taken from 50 feet away at night?
No info on year, miles, VIN, engine size, transmission, 2wd or 4wd, liftkit/oversized tires, tuner, if its been smoked in, seat layout (does it seat 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9) interior pictures, etc.
And then the seller asks why I don't want to drive 4 hours one way to "take a look and see for yourself"
On the other hand, I bought my wife's Yukon XL from North Carolina, drove down and picked it up.

Sometimes it works out..
I "went to see" an electric pressure washer advertised for 75.00..
When I got there the guy says,"I went to plug it in & it just stopped & wont turn back on"..
I said, "I just drove an hour.. why didn't u text me" He hemmed & hawed & said, "just take it, no charge"..
So I did.. got it home, took it apart & fixed it for 0 money.. NOW I got a free PW.. Lol

That's probably what I would do. I have talked more people out of buying my stuff, knowing more about it than them and explaining it's not really what they want. It hurts, but it's the right thing to do.

^^ Personally, I would send the guy some money, maybe $50 ?

.

Why?
Broken, it was worth $0 to the seller. Broken, it was probably worth the same to the buyer. Only when the two agree do you have a transaction. That's what happened.

Seller got what he thought it was worth. Buyer paid what he thought it was worth. Seller saved himself the disposal fee if he threw it out. If anything, it seems the buyer would of been justified to charge seller the disposal fee for taking it away.

It's only "worth" $50 after the buyer fixed it.

Isn't that what separates people that only do what they have to as opposed to people that go out of their way for other people? You don't need to stop for a hurt stranger, why would you? (Sarcasm)

Sometimes it's just about thinking about the other guy. Like letting some other guy at an auction get the deal, and be happy.

I don't really want to give that stupid cliche about what goes around.

I personally wouldn’t send the guy anything after not telling me it was broke when I drove an hour. I had a box truck for sale and a guy drove an hour to look at it and then it wouldn’t start. I’m sure you’ve all heard this before but it really did start and run great the week before. I took it to the repair shop because I hated this truck and I didn’t want to deal with it and a mouse had chewed a wire. Text the guy back that it was fixed and $2000 was a firm price but since I wasted his time I’d take $1900. He said he only had $1500 so at that point I didn’t feel bad anymore. We obviously weren’t going to make a deal even if it did run the first day. I later did sell it for $2000 and then the ac compressor locked up on the guy and he had to have it towed.

He did seem honest, if he offered the thing for nothing. Probably an honest mistake.

I recently sold a DR walk behind trimmer. I purposly didn't start it before the guy showed up, because I didn't want to misrepresent the thing. Starting it ten minutes after you had it running isn't the same as starting it after six months. As it was, we couldn't get it running. lol I think it was out of gas, and then I couldn't find my jerry can! He saw that it had spark and compression, so he took my word for it and bought it.

That guy that bought my generator control board for $350.00 sent me a deposit cheque for half. I shipped it and didn't even cash the cheque, and wouldn't have, if the thing wouldn't have worked for him. It worked great, and I suggested he just send me a cheque for the full amount, so he didn't have an extra transaction fee. He even paid for the shipping $38.00, which I said, i would pick up.

Most of those are pretty basic questions. It's when all that someone asks is "what's the least you will take", or I answer 8 emails, set a time and the guy never shows, never calls or otherwise let me know that he won't be there that it gets frustrating. If I'm selling a $3000 4x4 pickup in good shape and they're worried about the color of the interior or whether it has Bluetooth then they probably aren't very interested. The bottom line is that I stopped answering texts because experience taught me that they are from tire kickers about 100% of the time.

Then again I doubt that you would drive to North Carolina for a $3000 pickup.

Edit; here's the ad I had posted, sans photos and contact info. Flame away!!:)
