Anyone ever purchase something like this??

If I had a hitch on my car that would have saved $1,500 worth of damage and loss of the car for a week. The car behind me took off when the left hand lane light changed. Luckily she did not push me into the vehicle ahead of me. Even though she was only going 5 mph or less it put an unrepairable crease in my plastic bumper.

A friend told me where he lives in PA,,, that ANYTHING left in the receiver hitch will get a ticket from the local police,,
He said he got two receiver hitch tickets in one year,,,

I didn't know that ANY state had such a law, but I've long believed that we SHOULD have such.

Am I getting old, or what? Not too many years ago the factory bumpers on my car came with shock absorbers built into the bumper mount. These days they simply use stamped metal brackets.

The only thing I can say about the shock absorbing mounts were that they cost more to replace. I hardly thing anything like that would reduce the damage of a 5,000 pound car ramming you in the rear.

We moved a child to PA with a U-Haul trailer and returned it in PA. At the U-Haul place, when dropping off the trailer, the guy there told us to remove the hitch to avoid the hassle of getting pulled over and having to tell the cop you just dropped off a trailer. As I recall, he said they'll ticket you for license plate obstruction, even if it doesn't cover the plate. He apologized for living in a stupid state. :laughing:

Anyhow, several times I've tried to google up an actual law regarding leaving a hitch in the receiver in PA and can find no actual law. But I did find the license plate obstruction law, which pretty much covers anything that may block the view of the plate.

If anyone can find an actual law in PA that covers the hitch, please post a link to it, VS just posting what you've heard. "My buddy's mother's uncle's 3rd cousin once-removed said..." isn't admissible. :laughing:

I wonder how that super bumper would work with a trailer with surge brakes, like all u-haul trailers have?

If somebody is walking close enough behind a vehicle to crack their leg on the hitch, it should be their own problem. And I think most of these tickets of leaving the hitch in when not towing stems from obstructed license plates.

From experience I would not trust it.

In stopped traffic lady hit me from behind. Said her flip-flop slipped off the brake pedal. Her frame rail end to hit my hitch. The hitch bent down twisting the end of the frame rails.


Had she been centered would have been a clean radiator shot.

Without the hitch it would have been shock absorber or crumple piece in the bumpers. And a bunch of plastic on the car.

I call BS on that. In order for it to work, the foremost part of the offending vehicle would need to hit that dead center, otherwise it will ride over or get deflected.

Yeah, I wonder what percentage of vehicles would exactly match my hitch to accomplish that??? Maybe one in a hundred??

Well - due to the OEM raised suspension and overall height - most would go under. However, my hitch might stop a few from going under. I never wanted to go to PA anyway. So, the hitch stays where it is.
