I own a John Deere 4052R. It has a front and rear 3rd SCV installed, and a Tee was installed so both lines to the front and rear are active all the time.

The front 3rd SCV is connected to my grapple, and I work the grapple from a switch installed on the joystick.

I would like to install a Hydraulic Top Link on my tractor and connect it to the rear 3rd SCV. But, I have been told I cannot connect an implement (grapple) to the front SCV and the rear SCV (HTL) at the same time. One of the implements has to be disconnected.

So, I was wondering if there is some kind of manual diverter or shut off valve with an Off-On button or lever that I could just plug into the rear SCV or front SCV without changing my current hydraulic setup. So when I want to use the grapple connected to the front SCV I would just put the manual diverter plugged into the rear SCV in the Off position and all oil would only flow to the front SCV; and when I wanted to use the Hydraulic Top Link, I would just put the manual diverter plugged into the front SCV in the Off position and all oil would flow to the rear SCV.

Does any of this make sense to you? Would two manual diverters (shut off valves) with an Off-On lever or button work as I have described above? The attached diagram is sort of what I'm trying to describe.

Also, what I don稚 fully understand is - if there is no implement attached to one of the 3rd SCVs, the flow of hydraulic oil is cut off to that SCV. So why can稚 some type of shut off valve be installed on that same SCV that can also be plugged into with an implement?

Thank you for reading this and for (if you decide to) taking the time to respond.

According to Deere your machine has open center hydraulics. The way those work is that the flow goes through each valve serially. When you operate a valve, the flow is diverted to the valve's work ports and then to the attached cylinder(s). The only tees in an open center system are in the tank lines which drain valves at low pressure. If there was a tee to two valves, when you operated one the flow would just take the path of least resistance through the other valve and not move the attached cylinder.

At least here on TBN what you're calling "front SCV" operated by a switch on the loader joystick is called a 3rd function. The valves with handles that are usually on the fender or around the operator station would be SCVs. But yea they're all selective control valves.

With an open center system you can add additional valves in the chain. They should be sized to match the system flow (+25% or so). You can use valves with or without a power beyond port. If there's no PB port then the tank port must be specified to handle full system pressure. Otherwise the valve will be damaged when you pick up something heavy with the 3pt. The new valves go in series with the other valves. Generally the 3pt valve is the last one in the chain because its tank port is inside the transmission. So you'd add your valve before the 3pt.

There are electric diverters out there that are generic out there. There is a guy recently adding one to his loader so curl has 2 functions, similar to what you want.

Did you look at the 4th/5th SCV kit for it? I think that would be an easier cleaner option.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply . . . I have a 4th and 5th SCV installed and they are occupied by my hydraulic Land Pride Rear Blade. The Land Pride has a manual diverter attached to it so I have angle, tilt and offset functions with my 4th & 5th SCV, which is why I thought a similar manual diverter could be hooked up to both of my 3rd SCVs, front and rear. So my only option is the 3rd SCV as I described in my original post.

Eric, thanks for your reply.

Mike,

So sorry I offended you in some way - your comment, Are you trying to win a contest for the most hydraulics? was not called for . . . I just had a question that I thought I could get answered on Tractorbynet . . . it seemed logical to me . . . my apology. And thanks for the links, just the same.

It was just a joke. It is just a lot of hydraulics. I have never had the use for them all at once, so never looked at doing what you are doing for myself but looked at the diverters for older tractors that didn't the SCV options.

If I’m understanding this- because they tee’d the lines, it is sending fluid to both front and rear. I assume they have QDs on both ends, so as long as one set of QDs isn’t hooked up the other end works fine?? If that’s the case would a pair of these work? Or is it at least the concept you are shooting for? Turn the valve one way for the front and turn it the other way for the rear?

RNeumann,

Not a pair, but one unit . . . that would plug into my dual port SCV. Thank you, your close to the "concept" I've been trying to get answers to . . . my diagram shows what I was looking for . . . Thanks for your reply.
