Well, I picked up the two cherry logs from a pile today, see how you can choose one log, hold it and then pick through a pile to get the "next log you want", out of the pile,

That's another thing that pallet forks/grapple will do, that a dedicated grapple doesn't. SR
I'm not sure I get what your getting at, is there a hidden subliminal massage in there somewhere...............

That's why the wood doesn't get tossed into the truck, but "placed" into the bed.

That sound like a lot of work having to place it not to dent the useless bed and not break out the window. Only to have to unload it all again.

One of my neighbors had several oak trees cut a few weeks ago. After he got tired of cutting them up with his electric chainsaw he decided I could have the rest. IMG_8532.JPGIMG_8533.JPG

That’s a nice neighbor. Wish we had some hardwoods.

Sorry, the dumptruck's not on the road just yet, gotta rewire the headlights and DOT lights, then I won't have to worry about the "useless bed" anymore. I did however unload right onto the splitter & into the Totes, so the next time I move it by hand it will be right into the stove. Since I didn't have to cut it, the times I've moved it by hand is at a minimum.

OP, I believe he means he can hold a log and pick through and grab another without the original log rolling off.

Here is how I bisect a cookie to avoid checking. The 2 halves have been separate for more than a week now, and no cracks. It is drying inside.

Also pictured is a 48" cookie off the same log, sealed with AnchorSeal around the periphery, but not in the center. Drying in the center has already produced some inside cracks. That was about 6 weeks ago. I will offer it to woodworkers who wants to make a table, or make it for them.

It doesn't splint along the annular rings so semi-circle pieces fall out ??? That has happened to me when I was going to make some rustic chairs from fir. I cut them in two like that green and then I put it in the basement with the wood stove running to dry. Maybe it dried to fast ????

Got some firewood split - almost a cord but not quite in a couple days. Goal is to do a little every day and be done by end of April or so.
All dried up out back in the sun.

I have two small loads of logs to go to the yard tomorrow morning while the road is still stiff from tonight's frost. I loaded the one this afternoon ready to go first thing. And the second is on the little landing which is starting to thaw and get soft.
