Using rear remotes for grapple - as simple as I think?

Lets put it this way, If someone GAVE me a 3rd function kit, I would not install it for it. I would sell the kit and keep my current setup. Yes, it is actually that convenient to use with the extended control lever I fashioned. It also has one other advantage in that I can easily "feather" the grapple pressure. Handy at times to pick up softer things I don't want to crush like a rotten limb for instance. I can also easily adjust the closing speed. AS my pump is pretty healthy and the cylinder of my grapple is pretty small, you can snap the grapple shut with a bang, or slow as you want. While I always considered my original installation a stop gap measure until I got up enough money for a 3rd function, now I would not trade it out at all. I am one happy ole curmudgeon. :)

yeah- i bet several of us using the rear remotes don't miss having our grapples slam closed or open :D

no finesse in a 3rd function without restricting flow likely at extra expense.

I made an extension for my non detent rear remote about 10 years ago for use with my front snowblower. Just slips on. I left the other remote with detent fir wood splitter. I also routed s set of hoses under tractor with disconnect right next to loader disconnects so i could easily remove loader. Have bracket up by bucket. Id post pics, but i cant get this ipod to post pics tonight.....i hate apple sometimes. My extension is like james.

I have true third function on the Branson. I added a three spool loader valve to my Kioti. It is nice being able to feather the grapple on the Kioti. However, I don't mind the way it operates on the Branson. Very little difference between the two setups.

I don't have any problem controlling my Grapple using electric over hydraulic true 3rd function. I use all three of my rear remotes for their original intent.

I'm glad to see owners improvise and make what they have function efficiently.

When I bought my tractor, I knew I would be using the grapple a lot. The dealer offered a 3rd function for $900 or hoses to the rear remotes for $250. I estimated I would use the tractor for the next 15 years...God willing. $650 over 15 years worked out to just over $43/year. For me, it was and easy choice, as I would need to move my hand every time I used the grapple.

It appears you will be using your grapple a lot. Like overszd said, it becomes a personal choice.

When i bought mine, dealer could not locate an instock 3rd function anywheres that he could get in a reasonable time, and i needed tractor right away. Not wanting to haul it back later, i opted for using the 2nd remote and he removed the detents for free and fashioned up the hoses and front mount for $200.

I also used James k0ua extension lever mod for my DK40 and it works like a charm.

That's odd;I can stop my third function grapple in any position(Kubota factory set-up)
