I bought a used 2018 5115M OS with 261hrs on it.

The book says change the Hydraulic Filter & Fluid at 100hrs & I’m sure PO didn’t do it.

The fluid is clear as new as my two other JD were when I changed them.

I only want to change the $97 filter inside the canister & top the HyGard Fluid off.

I’m wondering how much fluid I’ll loose by unscrewing the big black canister on the side of transmission ?

To minimize the loss substantially pull a vacuum on the reservoir with a shop vac , just put the hose in your fill port and seal the connection with a rag. If you don't do this I think you will wish you had. How you liking the new Deere so far? Hopefully a lot, as I've just committed to buying one . Should get it first part of December , looking forward to it. I am going to have the side exhaust installed also. Regards, B

I’m afraid it’d loose a lot of fluid as low down as the filter housing is.

I may drain & strain fluid looking for any contamination.

I’m Absolutely Loving the 115hp 32spd with creep option.

Trans is WAY SMOOTHER than the JERKY 12spd on previous 5085E.

So far I’m liking the side exhaust

Does the one your buying have vertical Exh stack ?

Yes it does have the vertical stack , 32 speed ,cab 3 scv's both back and mid , I'm having the vertical stack replaced with the horizontal just like yours. It's loader prepped but I've decided to hold off on buying the 540 loader . Probably buy that if I sell one of my 3 other 4wd loader tractors. I'm glad to here your impressed with yours so far, is the 4 gear shifter somewhat of a short throw to make it fast and easy?

What year model are you buying ?
Used or New ?

I’m saying my trans / power reverser is WAY Smoother taking gear with OR w/o clutch compared to my JERKY 5085E I sold.

Nothing to do with shifting gears.

Ok gotcha on the smoother tranny. The tractor is a 2019 5115m, 50hrs, 32/16 tran no creeper, tires are the wider 34" 480/70/34. Front 380/70/24. 3 remote hyds back and mid, front fenders, side exhaust, standard cab , I didn't want the sky roof or big speakers but I did have him add the back floor mat that goes around the seat and comes w premium cab. Bout 11/2 yr warranty left. I did the build your own and w all the options came out at 91k list, I'm buying it at 67.5k, might be a little more cause I'm having him add rear wheel spacers so I can get the rear track setting at minimum width of 60.5" C to C. Trucking outfit near me will haul it from its S Dakota location, work it in as a back haul reasonable. I think I got a pretty good price at 25% off the sky high list. Forgot to mention does have the eh 3pt controls also.

You MAY not lose a lot of oil. If the pump sends oil to the filter, then onward? I only say this because for my JD 2030 I can change the transmission filter without losing all the oil, only what is in the filter housing. Yours may or may not be the same.

Seven Gables, how much is the side exhaust conversion ?
Was it a kit or all separate pieces ? I know yours is a cab & stack is totally different than my OS.

I’d really rather have vertical exh stack on my Open Station.

Thanks Zebra5. My local dealer didn’t have a hydraulic filter in stock.

He's charging me 1500.00 to change the stack from vertical to horizontal . I'm not sure how that is split between labor and the kit but I'm pretty sure if I ordered the side exhaust option on new was about 500.00.

I agree that a vacuum can minimize oil loss when doing certain things like replacing lines or other hydraulic components. I personally wouldnt recommend for filter replacement due to possibility of vacuum loosening debris caught in filter and sucking back into the system. Maybe it wouldn't happen but it is my perception.
