I don't understand that.
What I mean is that if we try to run all thirteen heads at once, the pressure drops way low as the pump doesn't output enough flow. That is the purpose of the two ball valves, to run half of them at a time. Hope I'm making sense.

Edit: I see where my earlier post didn't make much sense. IT IS conceivable that changing heads and/or existing heads to smaller nozzles would work. Would be worth a try.

Hunter published the gpm, so it should be possible to compare it to your well capacity before you buy.

Those gpm charts make for a good reference when comparing sprinkler heads and brands. My problem is that I don't know the actual capacity of my sister-in-law's well and pump. Her late husband installed the sprinkler system a few years ago and tried to size the zones and nozzles such that the pressure tank wouldn't be constantly cycling the pump.

I don't run a pressure tank on my submersible at our home and haven't for the last 45 years. Just have to remember not to run it deadheaded for too long lest it overheat? I think it currently puts out somewhere in the area of 10-15 gpm before it would start sucking air but there have been a couple drought years where all I could run was 1 or maybe 2 sprinklers at a time. With that being said, I think the well capacity has actually improved over the years, if that's even possible.

I've been running without a controller all these years up until recently so have a valve next to each head and will have the flexibility of cutting back if ever necessary in the future.

Really appreciate all the feedback guys and gals!

You can get a rough idea using the closest hose bib, a bucket, and a stopwatch. Just remember a 5 gal bucket holds a little more than 5 gals, then time how long it takes to fill.

Wonder how well these would do in an underground valve box that might get flooded on occasion?
The prices seem reasonable. Why couldn't a person piggyback a couple "four holers" if more than four stations were needed for a new installation?
I have one of the 4-valve-capable battery-driven orbit timers sitting in a box, and the box definitely got flooded last year (box was full of dirt).
The timer unit has connectors which come from each valve's solenoid and those plug into the back of the timer; they're trivial to unplug so you can take the timer unit inside for the winter. Tape the ends of the plugs that are left behind so that they don't get dirt in them...

i absolutely agree with trying the nozzle changeout first, easiest and cheapest hunter mp rotator are good but rainbird r-van rotators are more adjustable in my experience. you can buy large packs on amazon for ok pricing. there are different models for distance and arc adjustability. If that doesn't work you can always use the doubler, it works very well, no need to make things more complicated than they need to be.

Here's the issue: My Sister in Law's automatic sprinkler system has one zone with too many sprinkler heads to operate at one time so it has two ball valves that have to be manually switched to do half at a time. The ideal solution, of course, would be to install another solenoid valve but the distance is quite a ways from the controller to run the control wire.

The shuttle valve shown above is what could be used except it it designed to COMBINE two inputs into one output. I need a solution that does just the opposite. It would need to direct the pump flow to one side of the tee for watering half of the zone and then to the other side to water the rest of the zone. It would automatically switch to the other outlet of the tee when the upstream solenoid switches off and relieves pressure. Then the rest of the sprinklers on that zone would be watered and the process repeated for the next watering cycle.

I know it's a long shot but wondering if such a valve exists or whether something similar could be cobbled to achieve the desired results. TIA.
Well I have a drawer full of defective or noisy or hard to set timers so since we have wifi we have gone to smart plugs and manage them through the alexia ap...it is wonderful...maybe this could work out for you as well.

Tell SIL to go out and adjust the valves as required. Done.

I'd begin by experimenting with nozzles first regardless of anything else. Rainbird has low angle nozzles that are supposed to help a little bit with wind.

I'd figure out the gpm you have, install the right LA nozzles to not go over that demand, and see what that does.

I don't remember if you mentioned the brand of rotors you have, by I bet each brand offers a comparable nozzle.
