first store lumber purchase in a while. Home Depot yesterday:

2x12 x12 : $18.28
2x6 x12 : $10.63
4x4x8 : $8.78

not bad. The syp dimensional lumber was all really nice quality. The treated 4x4s were soaking wet and this one curved on me in just 8 hours from purchase, oy.

The thing I like about Home Depot is their no-nonsense return policy. We can buy lumber that seems too wet, and if it warps it simply goes back next time for full refund. Never an argument.

I can remember many years ago a guy used flour to
glue the wall paper on the walls in their house. The

Started a 28x32 covered trailer parking car port today. Apparently my local lumber yard did not get the memo that lumber prices had come down. I needed 64 8' 2x4's. They wanted $6.88 each. Home Depot want $3.48. I was planning on getting all the lumber from the local yard, as they deliver. But I ended up splitting my order. I only ordered lumber Home Depot does not carry, which unfortunately was 17 2x10x28, 4 6x6x16 and 4 2x12x24. Cost me $2000. I'll buy the 2x4's, 16' 2x10's and 12' 2x12's from HD.

The lumber yard is probably still overturning old stock they paid top dollar for. home depot is probably churning through the expensive stuff faster and on to the cheap stuff.

Yeah probably both of the things you mentioned. Plus you have homeowners like me rushing to get some projects going before the cold weather hits.

2x4x8' studs are only $3.25 at home depot today; perfectly smooth, straight and knot free.
2x12s are still pricey, sorta. Even 1x8 common boards stung a little (8'er was $11.57 apiece)

2 x 4 x 8 here in NS are CAN$4.28, (US$3.36)
2 x 10 x 8 are CAN$16.48, (US$12.93)
