I posted a pic of Sophie back on page 378 but I came across a couple more good ones while deleting images on my phone. They are of her with fawns. The first one is near the house, I was sitting on the porch and went to investigate when I heard her barking in the woods. The fawn was holding its own and head butting toward her when she tried to approach it. The next one was on a different part of the property, she must have heard or got scent of a fawn in high grass and was walking through it when the fawn jumped up and ran. She ran after it (and me after her), the fawn had the presence to run in the pond and Sophie doesn't like swimming and will only walk out in ankle deep water.
We walked a couple hundred yards away then sat and observed the fawn. After 15 minutes or so it walked out of the water and curled up in the weeds along the edge and we walked home. I came back about an hour and half later alone with binoculars to watch it from a distance and it wasn't long until the mother walked right to it and they both walked over in the woods.

You are much more brave than us. We've had does charge us while holding a puppy in our arms and her fawn was somewhere near by...... They are quite fearful of k-9's.

This picture was taken at a long distance. He was told to go back and jump onto this fallen tree. This is done to remind him he must listen..

You're right and I'm aware the mother can and likely will do what she can to defend her fawn.

One of my cattledogs once chased a doe out of a field as she had done dozens of times before. Little did either of us know that there was a fawn hidden nearby. As the dog was returning to me all proud of herself, up comes momma from behind us with bad intent. I was able to get the doe to back off but I am glad I turned around when I did. Just glad it wasn't one of our elk. we don't have moose here, I would not want to be around an upset momma moose.

I've heard similar deer and dog stories, an elk would be more formidable, much less a moose!
