Shuttle Shift... what RPM do you guys run at? PTO is 2800. At first I was running around, just moving some stumps around 1500, thought that was too low and started setting it around 2000.

Especially for digging into dirt piles, I set it around 2000 in low 1 then use the foot throttle as I'm biting into the pile.

My excavator doesn't have a tach, I usually run it about 3/4 throttle.

I would assume PTO throttle has got to be good to go for long periods of time, should I be setting it there? Thanks.

I just run the foot throttle most of the time. I pretty much only use the hand throttle when tilling or mowing for long stretches.

Moving around or using the loader, I just run anywhere from idle to 1800 RPM. Honestly, it doesn't need more and it will just make more noise and drink more fuel.

Is this a Shuttle shift (dry clutch) or a Power Shuttle Shift (wet clutches)? Mahindra website only lists the power shuttle. They also list the 540 PTO @ 2400 RPM.

Power shuttle. And yeah I was going by memory on the PTO I have not used it yet so I don't know it too well. I only have about 10 hours use on this tractor so far. I have done mostly loader work with it, the 1800 number you mention makes me feel better. I know under revving is no good. I'll try leaving it on idle and using the foot pedal for loader stuff. Thanks for the reply.

Only when doing the toughest of jobs do I go much above 1800-2000 rpm. I certainly don't need the added power and it requires quicker reaction on any/all of the controls.

For me - the job will get done just fine at 1800 rpm. On my M6040 - 2150 engine rpm = 540 PTO rpm. That's about 99% of my use above 1800 rpm.

I try to keep it up around my econ pto rpm, try to used a different rpm every 15 min or so and yes the foot throttle when i can, IMO any RPM that produces the power you need, up to full pto RPM should be good but of course anything over 1500 rpm but lower than full rated RPM will be more economical as well as less wear on the engine unless you really need the full rated HP. your torque peak may also be at a lower RPM. less noise also.
