Anyone own a JD 4310, HELP!!!

You don't mention your location in your post.
You may not like what I'm going to say,
It sounds to me like both you and your husband have no tractor knowledge,
at one time or another everyone is that way, some people are exposed to it early in life others are not;
I would say that you two need a bit of help from an experienced tractor owner, is there an antique tractor club in your area?
if so some of their members would be potential help for your problems,
would the person you bought the tractor be willing to give you both some instruction on using it?
as others have said get and read the operators manual.
but there is no substitute for having someone walk you through the simpler operation procedures and refueling procedure,
just in case your out of fuel.
