I bought my second BX in November of 2023 for mowing only, it’s a 2014 BX1870 with 54” MMM, I added a Kubota grass catcher that runs off the rear PTO. Last Summer on a very hot day in Southern Michigan I had it overheat on me, cleaned the screen and blew out the radiator. Seemed OK after that. Well I was mowing two days ago in 90 something and using the bagger and it overheated again. So…today I drained the radiator, removed it and cleaned it properly with compressed air and garden hose. So much dirt and junk came out of it. Reinstalled, refilled with new Kubota antifreeze and it’s all back together. I’m hoping the cleaning will keep it cooler on the hot Summer days to come.

My BX overheated once and it was because of all the fine stuff the screen does not stop. I just check it more often and have not had that problem since.

I blow out the radiator on my diesel mowers after each use with a battery leaf blower. This post reminds me that it's due for a more thorough cleaning with compressed air followed by a water flush.

My BX25 used to overheat regularly in the early fall when all the dry grass would clog just 20% of the screen filter which was enough to impede the flow of air to flip the temp light. Keeping the screen clean and a low pressure power washer on the radiator seem to keep mine in check. The tolerance level is very low to flip the light but that probably is a good thing as I would have never guessed that amount of debris would flip the light. Excessive heat = reduced life so I welcome it.

I’ve now mowed twice for at least two hours each and the heat is staying well below the red! Glad I did the removal, cleaning and reinstalling.

Mowed the trails for the first time this year. That little Kubota BX2680 with a 60" belly mower ate that 3 foot field grass without a hitch. It grunted on that big ant hill I did not see, but churned it out anyways. Temp gauge stayed right where it should be.
