    electrical gremlins -- again

2009 BX 2660. The gremlins are back. <sigh> Battery tests fine, Just last fall (2024) I had to replace a starter gear and now the 2660 is not wanting to allow any current from the switch to anything past the switch. Grrr. Guess I'll have to remove all the bolt-on points and polish them all...

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

Ok, here's what happened. I noticed that the starter was not jumping out (engaging) every time. Bad sign, bad juju. Even though the battery tested fine at a battery shop, turns out it's voltage was fine but just no load carrying capacity (even though the shop's tester showed it was. <sigh>)...

    Another Battery!

Did it actually crank with the new battery? The battery in my BX2660 was new in 2009 and it is still going strong. However, the tractor is almost impossible to crank now due to corrosion. I've cleaned almost every contact point except two and at least it will try to start, where before I...

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

Got the shop manual. Sadly, it has VERY little about the electrical system beyond simple schematics. Also, very few test procedures until you get into the engine guts section and there it has a little bit. Kinda of a sorry "shop manual."

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

At least I know when to ask questions. Sometimes I even ask the right questions. :) Yes, I know 2/0 3/0 will carry the load. I was just wondering, though, if the huge amperage ONLY occurs during cranking, as even 14 ga can handle a few hundred amps for a few seconds. 2/0 costs about a...

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

Thanks for that, Alex. Good guidance. If I replace the battery cables, I have some 14 gauge flexible copper silicone-coated wire, Will they carry the current? and I should have some even larger around here somewhere (for solar system I'm slowly building.) Will the 14 be heavy enough? It is...

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

I buy that, but I still don't know where the cables from the battery attach to anything. Is the starter (for example) on the front of the engine, down low, on the sice the bucket lever is on? So where do the positive and negative cables go once they leave the battery?

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

Follow up #2: I reamed the battery posts on the starter and ?? cables and they were all shiny However, I still am getting sluggish starter motion even when jumping it with the truck or with the 200 amp charger/jump start unit. Makes me think another end of the battery cables are also...

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

Follow-up: When I went to get a new battery today, the shop tested my battery. The guy looked at me and, not saying a word, picked up one of his handy tools and removed the corrosion from both posts. Did a load test and the battery is fine. Thanks, all, for your help.

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

It started fine the three times I tried it after the filters were replaced. I will look for that extra fuse when the heat dies down. It is SO hot and humid here. Temps with humidity factor is 105-108F here ( Huntsville, AL.)

(Can also set the jump to 40 amps and 200 amps.)

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

How is that physically possible? Also, wouldn't the jump starter (set to 2 amps) also be a factor?

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

It would still read 12.7vdc with a broken cell?

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

No prior issues anywhere. Battery checked alone and with jump starter, but still no voltage to lights or anywhere. Not sure where to jump the solenoid. Still no voltage anywhere to the tractor. It's as if the starter cable was suddenly disconnected. Weird. Maybe I should disconnect the...

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

Subsequent to all the hassles of changing the fuel filters, now trying to get her to start. She's been on a battery tender for several days and battery voltage is reading 12.7. However, when I turned the key just to the on position, that worked fine for 3 times, then when I went to actually...

Strongly recommend you don't do that dozer work yourself especially as a newbie to it!

    Kubota Stalling

My little BX2660 does that too, but usually after an hour or two of running. Now, it's constant. It is VERY hard for me to work underneath it to change that filter, thanks to my injuries. I've watched several YT videos where others have replaced the underneath filter with a larger, more...

Deer, same for my little 6 and 8 kw units.

Grading Box Blade and Rock Rake (a.k.a. york rake?) not really doing the job. Operator lacking skills?

Know it sounds odd, but there are locations where rocks to actually "grow" year after year. My and and uncle had a farm with fields that did just that. My cousins and I, for several years in a row, cleared that field of rocks but they kept coming back! Now, I understand that is normal for...

Have we been doing it wrong? High rpm's bad when not needed?

Thank the Lord I don't have to worry about that regen <censored.> However, my BX2660 manual says to keep my rpm's around 3100 or so when mowing the grass (regardless of engine load I assume as the manual doesn't say anything about that.) So, am I doing it wrong and possibly harming my little...

Is a subcompact under 25hp enough power?

I got so TIRED of replacing the "garden tractors" that cost $2-$3k. They'd last 2 or three years and have to be replaced. After the 4th one died on me, I said some appropriate cuss words and vowed to NEVER get that genre of tool again. Had my Kubota BX2660 since 2009 now and it has already...

    Best subcompact for the money

OP, I had the exact same motivation as you: disgusted with the 4th "garden tractor" (lawnmower) that lasted only 3-4 years for $2-3k!!!. Bah. After much shopping and asking around, I chose a BX2660 with the 60" deck, plus some other implements that I needed. Under $13k (2009). nearly $3000...

    3/4” or 1” cordless impacts

After watching a lot of YT videos, I took a chance on a Selee (sp?) unit. Fine tool that has not let me down. Only had it a few months and still haven't had to charge either battery (comes with two.) It was also the cheapest of all the mid-high torque units. 600 or so lb-ft IIRC. Variable...

BX2660 dead. Not even dash lights.

Found the culprit. It WAS the safety switches (actually TWO of them!) Cleaned and adjusted one and simply wired around the one for the seat. What a pain in the tush that was!

1.5 acres. Am I nuts for thinking about a tractor?

I'll weigh in on the Kubota BX2xxx series. Mine is a 2012 model, with 25.5 hp. With stock setups, it can lift 630 in the loader safely but you must keep the loader low to the ground but that's true for all loaders in general. My Kubota has performed flawlessly since new, except for that...

    "safety" switches

My BX 2660 is a 2009 model. How do I disable ALL the so-called "safety" switches? My tractor will not even crank right now and I desperately need my machine to be WORKING, not sitting around collecting dust. My grass is almost a foot high in the tall stuff. :( Thanks.

BX2660 dead. Not even dash lights.

Sunday, I mowed about 20 minutes. Got off the tractor to move a hose out of the way. When I tried to restart, it would not catch thanks to the wonderful safety plungers, this time on the pto engager. Turned the switch off, yanked back on the engager, still only a click. Turned switch off again...
