Advice on tractor/skid steer to keep field edges clear

I’m jealous of those articulated flail mowers! I’ve have a few places they would excel. Many they wouldn’t reach what I need cut or safe on my hillside slopes. Old man and wife trying to maintain our hillside farm more like a park than a road side ditch. Still cleaning up debris and damage...

Advice on tractor/skid steer to keep field edges clear

Use to clear by hand but labor intensive. Have several attachments for tractor to help. No one attachment does it all. Danuser Intimdator. Not only to pull up trees but reach up and tear off limbs. Hydraulic limb saw. Great for high and big limbs. Built this one. Brown tree cutter. 5’...

    Finish Mower vs Belly Mower

Mowing our rough hillside property a rear finishing mower works best. Can back under trees, up/down banks, creek banks that other mowers can’t touch. Rugged and easy to service. Being 3pt can raise and do FEL work. Wife is comfortable doing most of the mowing.

House Power OUT/ON indicator of some kind?

Have a cabin not far from the log house on the same phase. Can see when the power is restored from our house. The utility company has a pretty good outage map on their website. Sometimes can tell if power is going out for 10minutes or 10hours. New digital power company meters do have a little...

Backhoe Boom Higher than Garage Door.

Agree equipment does better covered and worth the investment. Can park the backhoe in the barn breezeway but not lockable. One shed was designed for the new garden mule or horse and finishing steers. Not very useful for equipment. Machine shed for 30-50hp 2wd Massy and Fords. ROPS and cabs...

Backhoe Boom Higher than Garage Door.

I have the same problem. Lower to get under the door, raise and lock. If I don’t lock it could ease down against the door. Have to remember to unlock and lower to back out. Since the M59 is a TLB it has 3pt hitch equipment 80% of the time so have some muscle/mind memory that doesn’t help. Sadly...

    Flail Mower Brands

Similar terrain and wants in East Tennessee. Woods maintenance is challenging. Impossible to have one attachment that can do it all. https://a.co/d/eMVHMB7 Traded some old broken guns for this Milwaukee mag drill years ago. Able to use regular drill bits. Adjustable base with the magnetic on. Large quill travel. Can change motor mount to distance from base to chuck. Used it drill and tap 5/8” holes in my welding table for...

Been doing some of that too. Recent fence is woven wire and barbed wire 80+ years old. I first clear as much from the fence as possible. Recently been using a new tool, Precision Manufacturing Miniclip that certainly been impressive. Then cut the bigger trees and vines in a section of fence...

Comparison Shuttle shift or hydrostat?? Is the extra costs worth it in a 50hp-ish cab tractor for pto power (brush hogging)

Good there are choices. Depends on intended attachments, tasks and abilities of what works best. Been fun experiencing the evolution the past 50+ years.

Put the Pat's on the lift arms of the B2601 today

Adapted pin sway bars help space Pat’s for easy hook up on the B26. Yes the extended length helps PTO hook up and important especially if equipment is shared with other tractors. Like geared level box vs the turnbuckle.

Comparison Shuttle shift or hydrostat?? Is the extra costs worth it in a 50hp-ish cab tractor for pto power (brush hogging)

Had my fair share of gear and shuttle shift tractors. All good tractors. Kubota M59 with HST plus is best for our hillside farm. Do a lot FEL work with lots of different attachments. The power, ease, control and speed is impressive. Same for mowing in tight or high hazard areas. Initial cost...

    High flow hydraulics to FEL

Most skidsteer hydraulic motors that size have a supply line, unblocked return and case drain back to tank. Three lines. Tank size and cooler depending on application. Tractor loaders aren’t nearly as stout as skidsteers.

    Brush Grubber

Yes, works best with two people. Wife is usually on the hook up end. Much prefers chain and pipe over graber. Better yet is the Danuser Intimdator which is one person puller. Clamp, drive forward to pull up, stack, repeat, grab pile and haul off. Careful with the forks. Scrapyard I frequent...

cylinder safety stops for *bucket* cylinders

Pat's Easy Change Calling Pat’s Cat 2 owners - Are you happy?

Not exactly apples to apples but have cat2 to cat1 Pat’s quick hitch on the Kubota M59. Most attachments are both cat1&2. With pin adjustable sway bars makes easy to hook up. Tractor is unique as it has hand creeper control accessible from the rear adds to easy hook up control. Just bump and...

cylinder safety stops for *bucket* cylinders

Not sure of your platform design or lateral loading but maybe you shouldn’t be using a tractor loader? There are many alternatives. aftermarket 3-point tensioners / better turnbuckles?

These imports were common about 10years ago. Modified to fit both the B26 and M59. Don’t miss the turnbuckles. Makes connecting with Pat’s quick hitch easy.

cylinder safety stops for *bucket* cylinders

Wanted to test an idea and made these adjustable safety stands. Tested with 600# weight plus me with complete relief of pressure. One can support the load but a little bouncy. Admittedly don’t always use them but nice option depending on the job.

BXpanded can custom drill a cutting edge to your specs. Choose smooth bevel, toothed or switchable. Agree with 5030’s drilling advise. Drilling tough steel is as much technique as equipment. Have to limit heat as many high strength materials will work hardened. Coolant or lubricants, slow...

Help with Identifying Brown Tree Cutter Model or Series

I’ve called the manufacturer to help refurbishing my older Brown tree cutter. Gave good information on parts, diagrams to email. First BTC I bought for $300 was a basket case and not a good candidate to refurbish. Second one for $1,000 has been very useful.

Toothed bucket vs bolt on tooth bar?

Hard to beat a piranha bar on a small tractor. Many small tractors don’t have enough power to utilize a toothed bucket. Have a welded in piranha bar for the M59 GP bucket. Great for digging, clear brush faster than grapple. Can’t carry brush like a grapple. Can level and leave a smooth surface.

    PTO Generators - Any Favorites?

Don’t think you are hurting your pump motor. Low voltage more of a concern than charging voltage. Pumps usually have a duty cycle. The Vevor pump is 10 minutes. That’s 110gallons. I tested for 5 minutes and drained less than half of a 5ah dewalt battery recirculating back to tank. In theory...
