I tried the pipe routine and failed ...... Then I went with a snow edge with no regrets. This year is the fifth season and the wear edge isn't near half worn yet.
I'll just mention my experience ....... depends on the make of the machine.
At one point I had three MTD Yardman machines and the spindle bearings were very easy to replace. I just bought a roll of bearings.
Then I got a Husqvarna machine and the bottom spindle bearing is pressed on making it...
So ... my probable solution will be to remove the lift links from the draft arms ... insert a draw bar in the draft arms and find a "neat" way to tie the arms up attached to the top link connection pin.
I recall my father left behind some 1" ropes that had the ends braided together forming a...
No, dogs cannot see red. Dogs have dichromatic vision, which means they can see shades of blue and yellow, but not red or green. This is similar to how people with red-green color blindness see the world.
Nope .... tried that before ..... there are geared lift arms that connect via the lift links to the 3 way draft arms.
Are you saying the drive arms do not have any down pressure so they are not relevant ? ( I know I tried a couple years ago to secure them in the up position and "something" did...
The sad part is if I left my warm hibernation spot by the computer and went out into the freezing temperatures I could have answered my own question.
I simply need to remove the two lift link arms and then I can lash the arms into the up position.
( The drop throttle also controls the mower...
Here's the question.
I have a T1030 NH tractor and use it to mow in the summer and clean snow in the winter with a rear blower
The issue in the summer is the 3-point arms drop low with the mowing mid-deck and sometimes dig into areas.
I have removed the arms for the summer previously ..... but...
Just a suggestion ... I have a LED emergency strobe with a magnetic base attached under the rops for when working near the highway ..... I have it wrapped and attached with long "cable zip ties" to keep it secure. I don't totally trust the magnet base.
I'll mention ..... Hitachi and Tanaka ( same blower ) made the very best hand held blower you could get and for some reason they just stopped making them for the USA. I was lucky and got three of them ... one for each barn where equipment is stored. They were bought out by Metabo and the RB24eap...
I bought a M18 model 2767-20 last year and love the tool.
It replaces four other electric and two air.
If I were to buy today I would get the model 2967-20 which is the latest unit and even more powerful.
I'll mention I bought a Milwaukee 2967-20 1/2" impact specifically to change out the factory installed anode on our heater. Our anode broke free with no issues. The Milwaukee impact has an unusual feature that once the bolt ( or anode ) is loose it immediately slows to a moderate speed ( much...
I also suggest the Woods BB72.
But also have a suggestion on what to AVOID .... which I learned the hard way.
I did have a TSC cutter with the angled rear end of the deck. THEY BEND EASILY. When the blades hit the bent corners you'll know it.
I've got a Wood's backhoe stored in the barn and it has only been on the T1030 machine once for a french drain project. Been in the garage for well over a decade with the cylinders coated with "FluidFilm".
I check it over about once a year and no issues so far.
I'll mention I have the malady on my left heel. And I also discovered that "grinding" down the associated callous made for much less pain. The item (grinder) pictured truly works very well and is dirt cheap. Only 10 bucks & I am amazed at how long the battery holds a charge. ( I also bought a...
We have a Ferris 2354GXLS that has done well on our three acres for about six years.
But I will say that folks next door have commercial acreage of about six acres that they only use for Halloween festivities.
They let it grow up all summer and then in the fall they have an outfit with two...
I call that operator error.
I have rops on a Ferris zero turn with a mounted TuffTop canopy ..... and then one day I "accidently" found the anchor cables on the power pole .............. that cost several hundred for a replacment.
I'm on a slab and built a knee wall with conventional techniques and then plywood ....... and finally vinyl siding from top to bottom.
No insulation but the flooring insulation is so inadequate in mobile homes that the temperature below stays around 40 degrees even when at zero outside. ( remote...
I have a TuffTop on two tractors and the Ferris ZTR. They have held up for at least five years so far.
The prices have indeed gone up. Be aware they were made by Femco originally but I now see another outfit called Kojem advertizing. ( sold by Amazon & Walmart )
I observed the initial picture provided and I wondered how someone could not notice through operation something was really wrong ......... and then I noted all the debris and crap left on the deck ...... and then I understood.
I've made a practice to change oil - engine oil filters - fuel filter - air filters once per year on two diesel and two gas machines that I use regularly.
I'm guessing the Rotella T4 is Dino & the T6 is full synthetic.
Two gallons of Walmart's Super Tech Diesel oil is $24 and you'll never notice a difference.
I experienced the same issue with my hydro filter on a T1030.
I replaced both filters even though the dented Hydro filter was yet to leak.
The bad news is the model numbers change every couple years and the bolt on "guards" become obsolete & unavailable.
I've learned to be very cautious how I...
FROM GOOGLE:
When corrosion is happening inside the water heater, hydrogen can be created because of the chemical reaction happening in that corrosion cell. That hydrogen builds up inside your water heater and is released when you use the hot water, causing some air in the hot water lines.
I'll just mention that we do a PM on our electric heater every six months which includes flushing the pressure tank ........ draining the heater .... replacing both elements ....... vacuuming the sediment out of the heater tank through the bottom element hole .... inspecting the anode through...
I bought the Snowedge with the a spare replacement edge several winters ago.
Because of the sacrificial edge it makes a novice operator like me capable of clearing my paved driveway without any notable damage to the surface. I can have the FEL in various angled positions and it still functions...
Looking at the photos provided ... I would guess the solution will become more obvious after a couple more decades screwing around with the "toys" and getting the windburn..
Age tends to bring wisdom ........ in most cases.
Just passing some info for the owners of the Canadian blowers. The electric motors that sometimes fail are simply 2000 lb. winch motors.
Mine failed a decade ago and KD Martin wanted over $400. to replace it. After research I discovered that you can substitute a winch motor for under $100. Just...
Once per year.
Clean off the excess grease around the pivot points with a rag soaked with mineral spirits.
Then again ..... I'm one of the few that waxes the tractor(s).
Trailer wire sold today is usually the copper coated aluminum that corrodes off at the connections very fast. You have to specifically look for the solid copper stranded wire. Costs more but is worth the difference. ( I got the 18 ga. because I now use LEDs. )...
The variance in "suggested" psi for all the ZTRs out there is difficult to understand. They all seem to use the same tires and the structures are very similar..... but on just the front I've found there are differences of up to 17 lbs.
I went from a Countyline to a Woods .... No regrets.
Just advice .... avoid any cutters with an angled rear end such as the Countyline units have. They will bend and are notably "thinner" material. When you are backing up and the bottom rear bends into the blade it will wake you up.
End of the story:
I extended the fuel line from the pump so that the now extended line is no longer "tight" to the engine. That plus the insulation has eliminated the noted "bubbles".
At start up there was minimal "bubbling" noted....... the filter filled with fuel with a slight air gap at the upper most portion. After mowing & the machine was hot the "bubbling" within the fuel flow was much more notable.
So I just mowed with the Husky for almost three hours and when I observed the filter there was still what appeared to be air bubbles entering with the fuel feed. They were very much smaller than what I noted yesterday and the situation does not appear to effect the machine operation in any way I...
I just got back into the house. I can never leave anything I don't understand alone.
I replaced the spring action clamps with some worm drive to eliminate possible air intake and also wrapped the fuel line were it is near the engine components with a length of split ¾" pipe insulation.
Time will...
I have a Husqvarna 2354GXLS tractor with a B&S engine. Yesterday I changed out the transparent in-line fuel filter. Today I used the machine for about an hour without any issues. Before I put the machine away I lifted the hood from the seat to double check that the new filter was not leaking.
I...
Reality
If you don't buy a new car each decade ..... the sensors have batteries which ... in my experience die in about ten years.
My solution on our two '07 vehicles ..... some black electricians tape for the TPMS light and I bought a Milwaukee M18 tire inflator for weekly checks.
Yes ... I'm using the 12YC @ .030 on 3 machines with B&S.
Using NGK in the Ferris with the Kawasaki.
It's just all the "bad" info out there is frustrating.
Just gonna mention.
I have eight walk behind mowers of various brands we've accumulated over the years. Two decades ago you could buy a push mower for under a hundred dollars ..... Now they are several hundred.
A couple years ago I bought the "new to the market" Yardmax 20".
You know ...... the...
So let's change spark plugs on our Husqvarna with the B&S model # 386777 1292G1 (23 hp) engine.
The tractor manual for the 2354GXLS says use a RC14YC gapped at .040
The sticker inside the hood says a RC12YC would be the correct temperature plug.
The Briggs & Stratton site confirms the engine...
OK.. But I wasn't aware the "wobble" existed until I checked the stump jumper tightness. For giggles the next time you're working on the cutter ...... just see if the jumper pan wobbles on the shaft.
My experience with the castle nut ( that has a cotter pin ) indeed loosened with time. Actually two pin positions clockwise after 3 seasons on a Woods 72".
Never checked it when new ... so it could have been "loose" from the factory ... but I doubt it.
Just to mention..... On the majority of cutters the castle nut holding the "stump jumper" to the gearbox shaft will certainly loosen over time and while under there sharpening the blades .... Good idea to snug the nut up to reduce / remove the wobble in the assembly.
I'll mention I started cutting about 6 acres ( 3 fields ) with a T1030 NH and a Tractor Supply Countyline 4 foot cutter. Not a good idea & my Kidneys did not approve at all.
I went and bought a T1530 NH and a 6 foot Woods brand cutter. ( both machines in my avatar )
I learned the hard way to...
Up here in the Northeast there is "real valley Topsoil" and then there is the screened crap dirt.
A guy two miles down the road has a landscape business and he bought a "Screener" . We watch him convert the crap hilltop junk that's left over from his various patio jobs that he charges the...
I would imagine the vast majority are above ground. The CSV125 is made so it can be installed within the well but that certainly makes them hard to replace.
The CSV1A is made for above ground.
I have the CSV125 on my utility well and a CSV1A inside the house. Both near the pressure tanks.
I noted today that the rubber pad on the reverse pedal of the T1030 New Holland with HST had worn through & metal was showing on the edge.
$35. dollars for a 3"x4" chunk of molded rubber.
Good grief.
My story ...
I've got four wheel barrows & a dozen shovels ... don't need a FEL.
I've got a dozen hacksaws ... don't need a 4½" grinder.
I've got several compressors ... don't need a Milwaukee M18 inflator.
The list continues to grow.
Get the drift ?
You'll notice that the massive cast iron grill is missing from my photo because my Father's son (me) decided it would be fun to take a drive 62 years ago and picked the wrong gear ..... ending up into a large elm tree ... shattering the grill into hundreds of pieces.
Being there was only 400...
It's a "snow-edge" by Ratchet Rake that has a "sacrificial" edge to save the blacktop.
What I like about it is it makes a novice operator like me with a FEL much more proficient in that the angle can be ± 15 degrees without issue. ( the one toggle at 90 isn't tightened down yet ) And just to...
Now being in my eighth decade the only preparation I haven't made is the ambition to shovel off the 1000 square feet of the white crap from the 3/12 pitch roof ......... when we get over 12 inches.
I've been a knife freak for decades. Had a large collection of Puma that I sold off and now still have dozens of other brands.
If you enjoy having cheap blades around I tripped over Morakniv brand on Amazon. Before Covid they were around ten bucks ...... now they range up to around $25 for the...
Be aware there are a multitude of prices on the same Tuff-Tops. Search the web for the best current deal.
And also notice there are two different sizes available so measure for your application.
I have the larger size on a N.H. T1530 (48" x 52") and the smaller (44" x44") on a T1030 & Ferris...
Check out Artillian ( aluminum) & Tuff-Tops (thermoplastic) generic canopies.
I have the Tuff-top canopies on three machines and like them.

Meanwhile .... I'll stick with every 3K miles ... currently on 205K miles for the Hyundai & counting.
Then again..... I install new pads on the front when I rotate the tires each fall so to each his own.
Just info for those using multiple check valves in their system ... below is an article on the topic written by "Valveman" ... Cary Austin .... who is a member here and I deem an expert on wells.
Bob Pelican writes some very good stuff. However, on the issue of check valves, he has taken the...
Amazon has the same units Cycledude describes. I'm considering the knock-offs for my bigger machine. The plastic locking studs can always be replaced with a simple 12mm bolt...
I've been through several blizzards so far with the 4 wd machine and no need for extra traction. Loaded rear R4s and 8 ply R4 fronts.
The new chains I bought for the tractor have been in the box for years now.
I've noted another issue over the last couple years .......... spray paint cans that "leak" out all around the nozzle ......... especially the Majic brand from TSC.
I've learned to put on vinyl gloves before using now.
Here's a couple I've purchased for much less and they've worked well for a couple years so far.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D3T8MM4/?coliid=I3QJ576DE6YQ4B&colid=29B4DMFMGZMNA&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Just to mention ......Digital Thermometers with 1,2 or 3 remotes provide the luxury of knowing the "out buildings" are heated. I now have three separate units.
I can order one from China ......... if I order 4999 more to fulfill the minimum order quantity.
I suspect sometime in the future I'll have to "engineer" some sort of manual winch for the deck.
To answer my own question .......... it appears the
Husqvarna 532421769 ACTUATOR.ASM.DECKLIFT
Has been discontinued. Now I need to find out if there is a manual means to adjust the deck if the actuator dies. Perhaps just finding a replacement actuator motor is feasible. Time will tell.
Seems...
I have a 2354GXLS tractor and one of the better features on this machine is an electric winch control for the deck height for finite adjustment.
I've looked at different Husqvarna sites looking for this feature and I cannot find it available on any of their machines.
Does anyone know why this...
Just info on the Meteor blower.
My unit came with an Electric chute rotator and the motor crapped out after two years from corrosion. After some research I found a better replacement option than paying Meteor over 400 dollars.
The motor is essentially just a winch motor (2000 lb) same as...
I currently utilize Howes, Power Service & Lucas treatments with my "stored" 30 gallons of diesel for the winter months. Based on the posts here so far I shall continue.
Several years ago I experienced a summer of "frequent" fuel filter changes. On the T1530 NH that I cut several fields with I had to change the filter often. The machine would just not maintain power & speed. After the filter change it would immediately be back to spec.
I was buying my diesel at...
I pondered the jinx factor after I posted .......... but I anticipated we would already have been buried ...... just based on how remarkably "wet" the last year has been.
Just to mention ....... Here we are in the first week of the new year in upstate New York and I still have not had to get the tractor out for snow or shovel the roof.
12 more weeks and we can pull the blower off.
Lesson I've learned the hard way is look carefully at the "bonded trailer" wire ..... to be very sure it is NOT the copper coated aluminum crap sold that corrodes in a couple years.
There really is deceptive labeling and you need to really read the small print to be sure it's solid copper.
Just a thought because of my prior experience.
If your pole has been up for a few seasons it could very well be that water collects at the bottom of the aluminum pole & sleeve ........... when it freezes the bottom of both the pole & sleeve will "bulge and expand" creating the situation you're...
Another factor with the snow edge is ......... it makes a novice operator like myself much better in that the angle of the FEL does not have to be as precise. You have maybe a 15 degree leeway on the bucket position to be effective when pushing off snow.
When I bought mine I included a spare...
I tried the ABS pipe deal before I bought the Snow Edge.
After climbing on & off the tractor to put the pipe back on the bucket a dozen times I decided the concept wasn't for me.
Something to ponder about the "quick flush". Opening a compression type valve does not remove much of any sediment .... at least that's been my experience over the years. I've drained the tank numerous times and when the lower element is removed I find a significant amount of crap.
Even with the...
Just a couple comments from experience. I service my electric heater at least once per year to remove sediment and check the anode rod. Did my one year old Rheem about a month ago and found so much sediment in the tank I'll now do the service every six months.
A beneficial option is changing the...
If you have "some manufacturers and mechanics" that tell you seals & gaskets go bad in 4 months of storage you probably should become your own DIY mechanic.
Dogs are without question .... The best love money can buy.
The picture shows Maggie & Barnaby. They have the same parents 18 months apart. Mom is pure Bernese and Dad is a Bernadoodle.
Just to mention for those that have experienced the Bates or Wolverine ( same company ) Duroshock sole issues that jaxs mentioned i.e. them falling apart & becoming "gummy". I've had two pair replaced by Bates. They require pictures but are easy to work with.
Just an observation from upstate NY ........ I went by a New Holland dealer this afternoon and there was two tractors out front.
A couple weeks ago I went by and there were two rows of machines ... perhaps 30 to 40.
No idea if they were on consignment and got pulled back or if they were sold...
Just to mention ....... I have two open cab and the only time I get jealous of those with the cabs is when I pass someone clearing snow .... in a blizzard ..... in their T shirt.
I've seen this on forums frequently ........... The MAX pressure on the sidewall of ALL tires is the absolute maximum the manufacturer puts on to cover their butt ........... and is definitely NOT the pressure the tires should be operated with.
If you need another clue....... check your vehicle...
A smaller machine has many advantages getting around a property. I have the pictured T1030 & also a T1530. The smaller unit is the preferred snow tool.
I did the greasing on our IS1500Z Ferris zero turn this morning and now have a question. The front wheel spindles have a 1/4-28 bolt that you are instructed to replace with a zerk ... do the greasing and replace with the bolt again. The position on the spindles is "out of the way" and not in...
Could the forum members provide their opinion on the price I should sell this MTD Yardman tractor model 804 (circa 2000) with the 42" blowers, 46" deck, 46" snow blade & wheel weights .... as a package ?
Got a T1030 New Holland 4wd with 18x8.50 R4s on 8" wheels on the front. Going to upgrade the half worn 4 ply with some industrial 8 plys.
I'm being told that tractor tires are easier to change if the rim is left bolted onto the machine. I've never seen them done this way and YouTube has no...
I never really gave it much thought until today but there are advantages to getting a used machine other than the discounted price. Last year I purchased a T1530 New Holland and the original owner(s) spent some extra dollars.
The FEL hooks were already welded on .... tires were already loaded...
The heavy weapons are ready for what's coming next.
When I changed the oil on the T1530 I found the engine heater I didn't know it had when I bought her. Nice surprise!
I got a 60" tiller along with a tractor I recently bought and A neighbor thought it would be nice to have a melon garden for his grandkids. So off I go a mile away to see if we could create one. We live on hilltop country and the soil is full of stones and I really think it is too early with the...
I recently bought a used NH T1530 tractor and it had a skid loader tire on the front -- one side only. The prior owner had sliced the original R4 tire and bought the skidloader tire and new wheel over the internet. Because the original R4 that was on the machine had 380 hours on it ..... I opted...
When I first stared buying filters for two tractors it was an expensive proposition. Now I've found if you dig a little deeper and do a lot of cross referencing you can acquire filters for less than half of the brand name stuff.
There are dozens of different manufacturers and the same filters...
Just got a T1530 with the 250 TL loader that has the Quick Mount feature.
To clarify ... it has a quick attach bucket which I guess was an option. What other equipment can go on the loader and was this quick attach feature made so that skid steer attachments could be used?
I've been searching...
I brought home a 2012 New Holland 1530 and I've spent the last two hours looking for a source for a brush / grill guard that bolts on.
Anyone know a source making / selling them ?
Thinking of buying a local used tractor that's for sale. There is a divorce involved and I suspect a loan as well. I don't know these folks and I'd hate to pay someone $15K for a tractor ..... only to have a bank come looking for it in the future.
Is it all a crap shoot when buying used from...
I have a Husqvarna 2354GXLS with the K66 transaxle. At the start of the mowing season the tractor would squeal or whine just when I pushed the reverse pedal ... but the machine still seemed to work OK.
Today I noted the machine would barely make it up the shallow slopes I have in the lawn...
I have a Husqvarna 2354GXLS tractor with a Briggs 23 hp Vanguard engine. It has under 200 hours on it and I've not had any engine issues until today.
After mowing heavy grass for about two hours I was headed back to the garage and the engine started to stumble and misfire. It will idle OK but...
The temperature gauge has stopped working and I've searched the web trying to find the location of the temperature sensor / sender on the Shibaura S773L engine.
Anyone have access to schematics or first hand experience ?
I thought it was unusual for so early in the spring ..... but yesterday I spotted a baby painted turtle walking across the driveway on his 200 yard journey to the ponds. He was smaller than a half dollar.
I really thought it was too early.
Then today a Mamma Goose shows up with eight chicks.
I kick myself in the butt for spending almost $150 on three spindles a few years ago for one of the Yardman tractor decks ............when all you really need do is replace the two dollar bearings ..... and the bearings used are very common .... the 6204-2RS bearing fits dozens of machines...
I've been doing the seasonal servicing of the wife's model 165 and notice the fuel low indicator light on the dash is now staying on when the tank is fuel.
She advised that it "has been that way" for awhile.
Is anyone familiar with the sending unit location or actually what sends the trigger...
I was recently told a remedy for problems with the heaters that have the wicks ....... the ones that turn crusty with usage that drops the performance of the unit.
The fellow that repairs them and replaces tons of wicks advised our nephew to add one capful of the engine lead additive...
A question for the experienced folks........ I just ordered the super cheap mig welder and helmet from Harbor Freight and noted that there were numerous complaints on the supplied wire. Most stated that Lincoln flux core wire was the stuff to use.
Is the Hobart brand flux-core wire of decent...
A couple weeks ago I bought two MTD 190-823 blowers form CL for the MTD tractors I have............. $200. for the pair.
Got one installed as shown & it works OK.
The second until has some missing parts. Looking for the lift handle, the lift handle bracket (750-1221 & 683-0298) plus the cable...
I finished putting the deck & back onto the Carry All frame today and would like to put sides on it. I spotted the brackets shown in the picture from this forum but can't find them on the net.
Probably because I don't know what they are called. I've searched "square tube interlocking bracket"...
I'm seriously thinking about getting one of the 5 ft. snow plows that attaches directly to the 4 ft. loader on my little scut New Holland T1030. The place below has them for $900. plus freight from Pa.
That price seems a little high to me. Has anyone else got experience with these plows ?
My...
Brought out my trusty orange pail of assorted Mole traps today to combat the critters because a few fresh dirt mounds appeared over night. I have convinced myself that this year will be successful in their termination .... because we have become more patient and finally understand that taking...
I'm still working on the restoration on Dad's Oliver plows and just realized I do not have three necessary parts for the 2nd plow which attachs the handles.
Any ideas where I might find repros or original parts?
Oliver E1 plow pat. Feb-1898 (#E286)
Cross pc is #TY710 and right bracket is WY268.
This time it's an Husqvarna trimmer that runs better with the choke half on ...... but I've noted over the years several other small engines acting the same.
What is that a symptom of ? Carb needs adjustment or what ?
Would anyone know who might fabricate a couple plow beams ( item b in the picture ) for some plows I am restoring.
( Tried Farmer Brown's & they are apparently too busy. )
I have property with three ponds clustered together that covers about two acres. The muskrats have really taken over this year and have reproduced into perhaps a couple dozen so far.
The damage has now become very notable with the banks undermined all over the place ..... so my reluctance to...
Overnight the three ponds have become one 4 acre job. It makes the spring cleanup just a little harder than usual ...... especially chasing the woodpile where ever it lands.
That's ice in the picture on the right ...... the original size of the pond that just "popped up" and floated 100 feet south.
Well ... Just discovered that missing roofing nail in the rear loaded tire of my NH T1030 sub-compact.
The juice sure squirts a considerable distance when I pull it out.
Anyway .... tomorrow I'll have to figure out how to plug the hole. I'm assuming I'll have to take the wheel off the tractor...
After three storms last week and an accumulation of about 40 inches I can state that a New Holland T1030 scut with a Meteor 51" rear blower is over matched for the wet stuff we've gotten........... and it's snowing again.
The first evening I went through the 10 metric shear bolts and soon...
Could you fellas with experience please provide your opinion on the 2440 for brush hog work on five acres ?
One for sale with a model 145 loader that has under 3000 hours on it for $7500.
Thoughts please.
I purchased a used T1030with 41 hours on it six months ago and yesterday I had a flashback to the conversation with the sales guy. It came to my mind because I rec'd a box of the Purolater Pure One oil filters in the mail ... and I recognixed that the diesel motor uses the same filters as all my...
