    6.0vs6.6, 6.2vs7.3, 6.4 Hemi

I ran 10w-30 dino in mine, changed it every 5k miles. With over 250k miles, it still had the original transmission. I serviced it every 50k miles. The engine was replaced at about 170k miles. It had developed a crack in the head. For 1k more than replacing heads, they put a new motor in with...

    6.0vs6.6, 6.2vs7.3, 6.4 Hemi

We had the 4.6 in a 1997 F150 4x4 extended cab. Not the most powerful, but absolutely reliable. I miss that truck. Owned it 21 years. Was our farm truck the last few years, then I gave it to a coworker who was going through hard times and needed a truck.

I have owned 3 5.3 engines, currently own one in our 2015 Yukon XL. No issues with burning oil. I am not looking for another 5.3, but appreciate the input/opinions. I have honed in on the 6.0, with the 7.3 being my next choice.

    6.0vs6.6, 6.2vs7.3, 6.4 Hemi

Reliability and longevity are my main reasons for looking for the 6.0. It has plenty of power for our needs. We will tow a maximum of 8-10k lbs. We prefer to do it with something a little heavier duty than a 1/2 ton.

This was taken into consideration. It may be a year before I buy one. I move slow on this type of thing, like to get all my information and research before buying. The prices right now are absolutely ridiculous.

It was. I am still leaning toward the 6.0, but have widened my search to include the 7.3.

Nothing higher than XL/LS/Tradesman trim for me. I prefer 3.73-4.11 gears. This truck will be used as a farm truck mainly. Cloth seats and rubber floors are just fine.

In a previous thread, I was looking at a gas 3/4 ton with the 6.0. I am finding some from all 3 with the newer gas engines for not a big money difference. What are your thoughts on the above comparisons? New are better? Junk? Let me know 🤷‍♂️

    Trailering Advice Needed

I have seen 3/4 ton Suburbans and Yukons. They would be ideal, but are few and far between and when I do find one, way out of my budget.

    Trailering Advice Needed

No water tank. This pull is our longest, right 550 miles. We try to leave early. I use a 1gal pump sprayer filled with cold water and wet them down at fuel stops if they are hot. The trailer does have great airflow.

Yes it does have the 5.3.

    Trailering Advice Needed

For a “luxury” suv, it does well. I have another thread where I am looking for a 3/4 ton Chevy/GMC with the 6.0 to use as our primary tow vehicle. I feel the Yukon has the power, needs a little more gear (has 3.08) and suspension is a little soft. We just pulled 1227 miles, half the trip loaded...

You sir are the reason I come here. Thank you for taking the time to provide a fantastic explanation. We show Paso Fino horses. They are a little smaller than a quarter horse. I never thought of the tack room 🤦🏻‍♂️. We will load middle and last stall and I will report back. Again, thanks!!!

    Trailering Advice Needed

See attached picture. This is a 3 horse trailer with one horse loaded in the front, one in the middle, last slot empty. The vehicle sag is exaggerated some as we were sitting in a slight swale. We may only bring one horse home. In your opinion, what is best way to load? Center stall over axles...

    2015 Yukon XL

Agreed-I do like the ability to grease bearings. That being said, I have seen where unit bearings last longer, but you end up replacing the whole assembly at a higher cost. Kind of a wash I guess 🤷‍♂️

    2015 Yukon XL

I am mainly a GM guy, simply because parts seem to be cheaper and they are pretty easy to work on. I currently drive a 15 F150 with the 2.7eb. Been a great truck, oil changes are a bit of a chore but not bad. I also owned a 2018 Ram with the Cummins-hell of a machine. When our towing needs...

    2015 Yukon XL

The 5.3. So far it is doing well. Looks a bit loaded down in the picture but the rear was sitting in a small dip in the concrete. It unfortunately has the 3.08 gear ratio, but doesn’t seem to hinder it too bad towing.

    2015 Yukon XL

We have owned it for a little over 7 months now. I fixed the middle DVD player (flipped the ribbon) and replaced the rear gate struts. Both relatively easy jobs. We made a long tow with it this weekend, a little over 500 miles. With 2 horses, trailer and gear we were just under 6k lbs. It...

    Need opinions 2016 Chevrolet 2500HD

I like GM motors for simplicity and ease to work on. I ended up passing on this truck. They wanted too much money (34k) and were not willing to negotiate much. I guess this is due to this so called chip shortage. Who knows. After more thought, I think I may go with 4wd. My wife reminded me of a...

    Need opinions 2016 Chevrolet 2500HD

Oh definitely. Not in areas I would go with the truck. I use the ATV in those areas. Most of the farm is hard ground, well established pasture and hard red dirt.

    Need opinions 2016 Chevrolet 2500HD

I have had both 2wd and 4wd. I very seldom used the 4wd. I can’t justify the added expense and cost of repair on additional parts unless I really need it. The only place I will be off road much is our farm. The ground tends to be hard and if I do get in a bind the tractor can rescue me.

    Need opinions 2016 Chevrolet 2500HD

If I were to do this, I would be trading my 2015 F150 2wd with the 2.7eb. 82k flawless miles, good power but the truck is a little light suspension wise for towing.

    Need opinions 2016 Chevrolet 2500HD

Not the best market to buy in right now I know. Looking at this truck, 6.0 gas, 2wd, 4.11 gears for our farm tow vehicle. Work truck package. Power windows, power locks, vinyl seats and rubber floors. Give me some opinions. I am familiar with GM as we own a 2015 Yukon XL, but never owner a 2500...

Where did Rotella Gas Truck Oil go?

Where did Rotella Gas Truck Oil go?

I read/watched some tests and reviews on this oil and switched our trucks to it a year or so ago. Tractor Supply used to have it, now they don’t. I checked Autozone, OReilly, Advanced and even Walmart. No where to be found. I am in Louisiana by the way. Where did it go? 🤷‍♂️. Good oil at a great...

    Weed killer accident

I usually spot spray weeds with Roundup in our house garden before mulching. I use Eraser Max on our pasture fence lines. Somehow I managed to mix the wrong one and spray. While I do not spray the plants directly, it is inevitable some may hit a leaf or branch. We have camillias, azaleas...

    2015 Yukon XL

Thanks everyone [emoji106][emoji106]. We picked it up today, 2015 SLT XL. Very clean. 5.3, 3.08 gears 2wd. Won’t tow often, maybe 3-5 times a year, 5-6k lbs max. With 3 kids, we outgrew the Armada.

    2015 Yukon XL

After having a 3rd child and with needed space with 3 kids and farm/horse activities, we have decided to trade our 15 Armada for a 15 Yukon XL. It is a SLT with the 5.3. It has 85k miles. Great shape. Wife puts 8-10k miles a year on a vehicle. Last GM product we owned was a 2011 Silverado with...

    Buying Advice Older Kubota?

    Welded vs bolted trailer balls

I use the Reece 3 ball welded straight shaft units as we have trailers with 2” and 2 5/16” receivers. What is safer, bolted or welded? Bolted could work loose, welded can rust and crack 🤷*♂️. Thoughts? We just completed a 900 mile round trip towing with my wife’s Armada and three horse trailer...

2014 Sundowner 3 horse bumper pull trailer light question

All lights work except interior lights for tack room and horse area. They do not work hooked to my 15 Armada or my 15 F150. Is there a fuse in the trailer or relay/fuses needed for this circuit in the above mentioned vehicles?

First long towing trip with 2015 F150 2.7EB

I have owned the truck about one year and continue to be impressed by this motor. My truck is 2wd, 3.31 gear ratio. Daily driving, I average 25mpg. My dad and I went this weekend to pick up our 52 8N with loaded tires and 4ft bush-hog. The trip was 200 miles total. Averaged 17mpg. That was of...
