Allis Chalmers AC5050 PTO lever will not engage after PTO pump tether broke.

I was spraying today. I finished about the 4th row, turned right to turn around and hit the next row, and the 3pt pto pump tether popped off as I was turning and hit a rut that jarred the tractor back and forth (obviously needed a little more slack in the tether). I pulled the lever up to...

FORD 555 (B?) Loader/Backhoe drive issues.. Takes a long time to get moving. What is causing this?

Is all of this necessary to fix it, that seems like a lot of extra stuff. Is it possible the seals that are old and stiff are reasonably easy to access behind the control box up top? Or is that just wishful, lazy, hopeful thinking, and everything needs to be done once something needs to be done...

What model is this Case planter?

Someone on another forum said it might be a Case K160, the last model planter that Case ever made. If it is, then the last unit was made in 1969. I searched for that model and I can't find any pictures of it.. I can't find literature for a K160 online or for sale.. anywhere. So without knowing...

Cultivator type for my application. I don't know the name of it.

A little update.. found this -ON the property. lol. It has 3 existing shanks, with sweeps on them, and on the front I-beam, there are 3 more of the attachment "things" that the shanks would go in. It has a 3 point hitch on it, looks like cat 2. I can't move it, its heavy. I think I could...

Cultivator type for my application. I don't know the name of it.

No we have a disc, but its too wide for the walkways and we have a lot of clay so if it gets too dry the disc won't do much bc the clay gets too hard for it. Appreciate the reply.

Cultivator type for my application. I don't know the name of it.

Yes. Looking to keep the walkways between the peas clean(er), at least until a canopy starts to develop-and longer if its possible. That's a lot of good info to look into, Thanks a lot! Also, RE area size.. at this point I WISH it was just a garden. I looked at the Planet Jr wheel hoe and HOSS...

Cultivator type for my application. I don't know the name of it.

I think I've saw these while looking around at "cultivators".. these are the ones that have the "finger-like wheels" on them right? I've never saw one operate, and don't know anything about them outside of this conversation, so I don't have any idea of what kind of job they do, but I will see if...

Cultivator type for my application. I don't know the name of it.

I'm looking to use a cultivator with sweeps on it to clear southern pea walkways of weeds for the first part of the growing cycle until a canopy starts developing. I've searched the internet a few days looking at cultivators, and some cultivators are called chisel plows, or field cultivators...

FORD 555 (B?) Loader/Backhoe drive issues.. Takes a long time to get moving. What is causing this?

Ford 555B Loader Backhoe takes a long time to get moving. If anyone has answers that'd be cool. If the tractor is cold, even when put into forward, and with the rpms raised (or not, doesn't matter).. doesn't move. I've watched my father sit on this thing for 10 or 15 mins waiting on it to...

    Tractor setting areas on fire?

So nothing going wrong inside the engine would cause that? (and the engine show no signs, sounds, smells of any issue, no vibrations - as in this example) Just carbon build up and releasing when worked hard? I'll have to try it at night sometime and see what ours looks like.

    Tractor setting areas on fire?

I'm posting about this because I have a ford diesel and I'd like to better understand what might have happened in his situation so I can be more aware of not only my own surroundings, but what potentially causes it, what to look for, how to potentially prevent it, etc.. I surely don't want to...

    Tractor setting areas on fire?

I ran into someone I know at Walmart recently and he told me that they were roto-tilling an area next to a fenceline a week ago, and when he made one of the passes right next to a property line - when he got to the end of the row to turn around, noticed the neighbors property was smoking badly...

Ford 6600 Ball joint stuck in place

We eventually worked on the stuck ball joint enough times with more heating and more hammering (x 10) that it came loose. It looks like we will be lucky enough to not have to take the center pivot arm off... I feel like I probably shouldn't have typed that last part. Oh well, onward we roll...

Ford 6600 Ball joint stuck in place

Well... It would only make sense to get there immediately, right? o_O We're having an issue getting the steering arm ball joint to come out of the center steering piece both tie rods connect to. Its been air hammered so the end of the bolt is starting to deform and don't want to keep pushing it...

Ford 6600 Ball joint stuck in place

Bought an Ingersoll Rand 115. 5000 bpm, short stroke (not the expensive ones that are $200+, its about $70 ). Hit the ball joint from the top radiator side twice w/ the air hammer (a total of about 3-4 seconds vibrating), and IT FELL RIGHT OUT. They beat and heated on this thing for over 3+...

Ford 6600 Ball joint stuck in place

I'm not sure why I typed half a turn (maybe an auto correction) its nearly a whole turn... about 85-90% of a whole turn. All the ball joints are toast from the pittman to the tie rods.

Ford 6600 Ball joint stuck in place

The 6600 we got had about half a turn of play in the steering wheel. All the ball joints were sloppy from the connection at the Pittman all the way to the tie rods. The ball joints are wallered out. In the process of removing the tie rods, one of the ball joints is stuck in the center piece both...

AC 5050 What is this part?

What is this thing called that I am pointing at- so I can try to locate another one. I just don't know what its called, its part of the power steering and its at the bottom (front tractor) of the hydraulic piston, the steering arm coming from the Pittman arm connects to it. There's a little play...

AC5050 will only start with ether, please advise- we need this thing to run.

That makes two of us that are glad its running and hoping for no more issues, at least until the season ends. I thought about proposing a warm compression test to my father yesterday when he was riding around on it, but I didn't because the tractor was together and running for the first time in...

AC5050 will only start with ether, please advise- we need this thing to run.

I would say it wasn't excessively cranked, but that is just my opinion. We certainly didn't continue to crank and crank and crank when the engine didn't even attempt to start. It started right up yesterday morning, first try again. Pop drove it around a while, about 45 minutes at varying RPMs-...

AC5050 will only start with ether, please advise- we need this thing to run.

I hope you are right on the compression, that would be the best possible outcome. Doing the test cold was the only way we could get any information at the time- but we will still be keeping a close eye and ear on everything from here on out just incase there are any other underlying problems...

AC5050 will only start with ether, please advise- we need this thing to run.

Ok.. an update. Got the tractor running! Turns out the gear that drives the injector pump was NOT lined up properly according to the marks on the gears that line up together. Two marks WERE lined up, but they were not the CORRECT marks to line up together. What we think happened is that the...

AC5050 will only start with ether, please advise- we need this thing to run.

The injection pump was just rebuilt after this issue happened. We installed the rebuilt pump exactly as the old pump came off... where one sprocket has a white dot on it, and the other sprocket has a V that lines up with the dot. (We even took the rebuilt pump back once after the tractor still...

AC5050 will only start with ether, please advise- we need this thing to run.

I used the phrase "we" in my OP. It was actually my father that sprayed all the ether. (Not laying blame, but that's the truth) I have never used ether on an engine myself. When I originally saw him doing it I said "You shouldn't use that" (because I drive a diesel pickup, I at least know its a...

AC5050 will only start with ether, please advise- we need this thing to run.

How many PSI should each cylinder average? We got about 250psi per. Compression is 17.1:1 , atmospheric pressure around 14.7 .. would be around 251psi.. right?

AC5050 will only start with ether, please advise- we need this thing to run.

Allis Chalmers 5050. Been having issues getting it started (its the summer, in Georgia), it started off as an intermittent problem only SOMETIMES having to use ether to start. Then having to use ether to get it started more and more often. Then that progressively transitioned into having to keep...

Ford 555B Boom and Stick hydraulics won't work simultaneously. Is this normal?

We just got a Ford 555B TLB about a week ago. This is our first backhoe. If I use more than one hydraulic control at a time, they don't work together. For example, if I try to lift the boom and crowd the stick at the same time, only the stick crowds, when the stick has reached its stop (or you...

BushHog spewed oil out of the valve on top of the gearbox

This is our first bushhog.. we oiled it per the manual, and installed it. One of the blades didn't "unstick" when we got it so we figured we would just run it to get it unstuck. Well, that broke the shear pin because it did not come loose when we hooked it up as we thought it would. After...

Heavy Grinding on stick. Unable to go in and out of gear.

First let me say that nothing has changed since we bought the tractor. It hasn't even been taken off the trailer we loaded it on when we bought it. This weekend we checked all the fluids (added none, everything was fine), greased all the zirks, checked dirt cup, air filter, other filters, etc...

Hydraulic Top Link Conversion Cost Estimate?

I'm just curious.. how much is the "average" cost to convert a manual top link to a hydraulic top link on an older tractor? 1983 AC 5050. 50 hp. Type I/II 3pt hitch. If I can answer anything that will better help you to answer as best you can, ask me.. **EDIT** - We just got the tractor, but...
