I think I'm going to need snow removal equipment

I live in snow country (New England). Before you spend thousands on equipment you will only use once or twice a year, consider it as pole vaulting over a mouse. there are lot of not so smart opinions out there. R1 tires are generally ok, except in wet snow. Solve that with tire chains...

    New fuel can comments.

You can fix most of the new cans (except the ones with the green button. Don't buy one ever). for the others (midwest type cans) First pull out the strainer and throw it away. For the spout, fix them this way; there is a rubber gasket on top of the nozzle that holds it together. Take it...

    Landscape Rake for Manure Collection

If they are dry a landscape rake will work to break them up and leave pieces along the way. I have one and it works, but I also have a pine straw rake that has done a better job of collecting grass, weeds, twigs, leaves, etc. A landscape rake will collect heaver things. A pine straw rake will...

I don't hook it to the top link. Just use the lift arms and the skidding tongs to get the front end of a log off the ground, and drag a log about 100 feet from where it was unloaded to where I have the splitter. -- the weight is to simply to counter balance the bucket when it filled with split...

Tractors and wood! Show your pics

In the past I either cut fire wood in the National Forest or got it from people who had trees cut down and did not want to pay to have it hauled off and gave it away. This year I had a log truck load delivered. To move the 24 ft logs to the splitter I built a 200 lb weight that I can attach...

    Battery powered chainsaw

they depend on what you need to do. They will not replace a gas powered saw. I have a small Stihl. Mostly its handy for cutting up limbs that drop from a 100 year old maple, and I use it if splitting stringy wood rounds, where I need to cut the strings to continue. Otherwise its not worth having.

Back blade on front 3-point hitch -- Good idea or stupid?

Has anyone ever tried putting a 3-point hitch on the front of a compact tractor and using it to mount a back blade to plow snow? -- I know there won't be any springs to dampen the blade hitting something, but my drive way is short and there are no curbs to hit. Just wondering if this is a...

    (FOPS)FALLING OBJECT PROTECTIVE STRUCTURES

Klein makes a digital angle gauge with a magnetic base that I've used to see the angle I've been on. Generally when you get to around 16 degrees, your close to rolling. I think the OSHA says 22 degrees, and the Army manuals say 20 degrees. Spacers help. On my little Mahindra I was often...

Pull down a high widow maker.

I have an old 8000 lb winch. Its extra work, but I've hooked it to another tree and with a remote, used it to pull down hung up trees. Have also done it with a 4000 lb ATV winch. -- Bought them when I was cutting fire wood alone in the National Forest..

Grading Box Blade and Rock Rake (a.k.a. york rake?) not really doing the job. Operator lacking skills?

With a boxbade you will have to make several passes to get most of the rocks up. Don't think a York rake will help until most of the rocks and roots are up. -- I tried once, and gave up on the york. Kept making passes with the box blade.

    Who writes owners manuals?

Comparison Buying my first sub compact tractor need help deciding.

The 25L is a compact. Not a sub-compact. -- I have the sub-compact Emax 20s. It was small enough to fit where I needed to put it, with a backhoe. Most of what others here say about ground clearance and such is BS. I've also operated a 40 horse Kubota (double my 20 hp Emax), and unless your...

1 tractor rest of forever -- what brand?

Note that all tractors (and all motor vehicles too), share parts and have assemblies engineered by different companies. I have a Minhandra compact, it works, with no problems. But I found the backhoe was engineered by John Deere, and most of the tractor is the same as another brand.

Pine Straw Rake for cleaning up leaves? Useful or not?

    hydraulic
