Using concrete slabs to "pave" some wet spots in a road.

I’m trying to figure out which is 15 and 40 feet long, the wet areas or the slabs of concrete? If the latter, I don’t see how it can hurt; especially if you fill underneath them first as others have suggested. Somewhere recently I’ve seen slabs of concrete from a bridge for sale. The only...

This is why next year, when things hopefully settle down and I get some money set aside I will probably buy a Ford Maverick hybrid. The 20k base price is appealing and I like the 35+ mpg. By then my Colorado will be 6 years old with about 70k miles... I can back that into the garage with a full...

    Retirement Planning - Lessons Learned

I have a few more years, but most people I know find themselves wondering how they ever got anything done before they retired. Those who don't find things to do and complain about being bored...it seems like just a short time before I read their obituaries in the newspaper.

I believe that a corn burning stove is built differently to accommodate the sugar in the fuel. You can burn pellets in a corn stove, but shouldn't burn corn in a stove not designed for it.

The down side of using a grinder is that it may harden the teeth so that you won't be able to sharpen them in the field. Therefore you will want to keep several chains on hand so that as one gets dull, you can swap out another. Experiences may vary, I've only used one machine which belonged to...

Why no 4 wheel drive on roads?

My Colorado has a knob to run the electric to engage 4WD. I'm constantly hitting it with my knee when getting in or out of the truck. I know within 50 feet that it's engaged, because the truck starts bucking and binding.

I see some old pine logs in the foreground... do those go into firewood? If so the way you measure firewood isn’t the only thing different where you are. Nice looking ‘98 GMC in the background. I had one like it, which was one of the best trucks I’ve ever owned.

I already have the hill with the view, but I'm building on the bottom of it instead because the traffic on the highway is a lot less noticeable. I thought about selling 5 acres off when the price of real estate got so crazy, but I don't want neighbors.

I saw one at a trade show a few years ago but it was geared more toward commercial applications. It's pretty simple to dry your wood before chipping it, just pile it down and let it set for a year. I always thought it would be a good way to get rid of the tops and smaller wood that I make when...

Yet THAT is what's wrong with our economic strategy, especially when it pertains to a global economy. Rather than shipping our problems (and jobs) overseas, deal with them here and let capitalism work. My jeans fade quickly enough anyways, I don't need to pay extra for a process to do it.

I think I’ve covered that before. Why use a 60cc saw with 24 inch bar to cut an 8” tree out of the road? Aside from it being overkill, that’s a lot of money to have tied up in a saw which rides around in the back of the truck and might get used once per month. I have a Poulan which cost me $100...

This is probably a repeat, but I always enjoy it. A keen country lad applied for a salesman's job at a city department store. At the end of his first day on the job his boss fronted up and asked, "How many sales did you make today?" "One," said the young salesman. "Only one," blurted the boss...
