How does one use a PTO chipper with an electric PTO clutch?

I've been around a ton of engine driven chippers, and the huge flywheel of a chipper means you really have to feather the clutch in. How do people do it with modern electric PTO clutches which don't allow a feathering? Or do the manufacturers install a mechanical clutch on the chipper itself...

    Horrible accident with vintage dozer

It appears that a newly purchased 1960's vintage International TD 6 started moving while the owner was working on it while standing on the tracks. He was killed, and then the dozer drove into a car containing the woman, where she was killed. From other boards, the hypothesis is that the...

Whats the difference between a Duetz air-cooled and oil-cooled engine?

I don't get it. Both run the air thru a plenum and an air-oil heat exchanger, but some are pointedly referred to as air-cooled while others are decidedly oil-cooled. Power doesn't matter, both types are offered in excess of 100hp.

    Newly OCD'ing about motor oil

'83 John Deere 950 with 700 hours. We've always used Deere brand 30. I've started OCD'ing about this, and was wondering about going synthetic. Chevron recommends Delo 400 Multigrade for pre-2007 engines. I wonder if this is even a concern with a machine doing so little hours, yet getting an...

How often do diesels "run away"?

I've been around diesels most of my working life, and have never seen it happen, or heard of it. But it seems like a persistent concern here. I have a old JD 950, and to choke off the machine from air would be a real project. It's a totally mechanical system, are they safer or more prone to...

Trip report: Thermal Arc Fabricator 181i

Well, I bought me one of these yesterday, and I'm happy. Got it set up and ran some beads with 3/32 6013 and .035 FC. So far so good. I can't get too involved because my garage is filled with sawdust, varnish fillings and partially completed wood projects, so I have to get the fire hazard...

Little, old and little& old dozers around Snohomish WA

This is what I've seen just the past two days. It's always 420 somewhere. I think this may be a model modified in Yakima by Linderman. This would be a fun machine to own and use if you could baby it and back it up with a newer and stronger wheeled tractor This an ancient Windolph made in...
