Questions Re ROPs Options and Backhoe on L \'30s
Some related questions on the ROPs options for the Grand L '30 series and the new BH90 backhoe.
1. I understand that there are both a folding ROPs and a non-folding ROPs available. The folding is about 91 inches high; the non-folding is about 85...
Top n Tilt on Grand L \'30 Series
Usually knowledgeable dealers are giving me inconsistent info on the physical set-up and pricing on TnT. What is clear is that Kubota has a TnT "kit" that lists for $700. Separately, also listed are stackable rear remote outlet/valve/lever kit packages: $600...
Six months ago it was the only site on all the internet that would not recognize carriage returns with a Mac running OS X. Now it recognizes them.
Congratulations.
Or maybe not. Who knows the reason? There have been a few OS X release levels since then, and I have also switched to the beta...

Anyone else have the dubious pleasure of getting one of these?
I got a case of Ehrlichiosis this summer. Like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever, it comes from a tick bite. What a sneaky sucker. You don't even know you have anything until you feel like dying. This particular disease...
When the tractorman is driving his tractor over a swamp at night, taking his two dogs out for their midnight frolic, he often gazes in awe at the glittering sky. And wonders. What are the stars and galaxies made of? What else is out there?
Does it bother anyone else that the answer now seems to...
There are many and ever-recurring threads here about how to fit up a tractor with a toolbox. All these threads miss the obvious: you don't need a toolbox on a tractor. I've proved it. Owned a tractor for two years and never needed a tool for any reason.
Here are the specifics for the newbies...
I'd like to make believe that this is a general observation, but we all know what I am referring to. So, to get to the point: I don't think extremely long customization threads are the best presentation of the substantive ideas they contain.....These threads contain some of the most...
Is there such a thing as a hydraulic skidsteer finish mower that could be mounted on FEL arms?
Were I to get a new tractor, I would have an ATI skidsteer attachment plate put on the FEL so that I could use skidsteer quick-attach buckets, forks, augurs, hoes, etc. It would seem that one should...

Who\'s Got the Most Acreage?
I was just reading a thread and clicked on jrpoux's profile. He's got . . . egads. . . 6000 acres! (Texas, naturally.) Does anyone have more than that?
I'm seriously thinking of hitting the road. Vamoosing. Getting out of Dodge. In other words, screwing it..........But I don't yet know where I would settle down, if anywhere, and I wouldn't have much money available.......One idea that seems reasonable is to get a motor home and do a vagabond...
Is there such a thing as a dump trailer that you can tow with a compact tractor that can hold the equivalent of the bed of a large pickup truck?.........I would like to haul several score tons of gravel and dirt onto my property but I don't want to buy or rent or pay for a truck to do that...
Has anyone put an after market seat on a Kubota Grand L? I have become very partial to seats that have arms (which the L doesn't), that can recline (which the L does), and that have a lot of vertical travel (which the L is sort of mediocre at).....Any good or bad experiences or other info would...
Size/Make of BX Rear \"Bar\" Tires?

Backing Up Mixed PC\'s and Mac\'s

I can see it coming: more Star Member gadgeteering.

I have heard talking heads sometimes referring to Afghans, Pakistanis and Turks as Arabs. My understanding is that these three groups are not Arabs. All Muslims are not Arabs, are they? But are all Arabs Muslims? I don't think so.

It certainly will be much worse in terms of total casualties. There were about 2,500 in PH; I expect there could be more than 20,000 at the WTC. It's also worse because the victims were all civilians, not military personnel. Even the Japanese didn't bomb downtown...
I've spent the last 3 days cutting heavy brush and having the woody spears win quite a few rounds.

I was told by a dealer today that there currently is an $800 factory rebate on Grand L tractors and a $150 rebate on the loaders, for a total of $950 in rebates. He also said the rebates and the Kubota finance charges would change tomorrow! He didnt know what the changes would be, however.

Let's face it. We here really don't do much if any tractoring. We mainly just sit here at computers and type stuff about tractoring that we learned from other website junkies who don't do any tractoring.

As part of our continuing education on tire options, I thought it might be informative to collect info on how frequently we have gotten a flat tire, which tire (front or back), what kind of tire (ag, turf, R4), and what caused it.
I also think it would be informative to report no flats and what...
Several tabloids, including this forum, have disclosed the shocking fact that most of the people who claim the boxblade to be the super-implement actually spend thousands of hours a year manipulating their manual toplinks or, alternatively, spend thousands of hours and dollars trying to replace...
With all the action and discussion over top & tilt installation, I have become relatively convinced that a hydraulic toplink has several beneficial uses. But how useful, really, is a hydraulic tilt cylinder on one side of the 3ph? Frankly, in a year of tractoring, I have never tilted my hitch...

People who want tractors with belly mowers are concerned about "maneverability" on their lawns. They want to know, as part of the buying decision, how well a given tractor/belly mower combination will mow around trees, bushes and other obstacles.

We have had a lot of good information on boxblade blades in the recent thread entitled "Yet Another Boxblade Question". There are also a lot of issues that I think it would be useful to discuss regarding the scarifiers.

From those of you who have installed top cylinders and tilt cylinders on the 2710 or 2910 tractors, would you mind repeating again:
1. What are the proper size cylinders?

Maybe I need a truck.
Let's put it this way: I've gotten more and more involved over the past 12 months with tractoring and all its related projects, implements, materials, detritus and trips; and my primary load carrier is the back seat of my Mustang convertible. I've been creative, but it's...
We have several threads on the technicalities of adding 1, 2 or 3 hydraulic valve outlets. Before I consider doing this, I would like to get a survey (and pictures, if possible) of where people have put the 1,2 or 3 additional levers that are necessary to operate the valves.
Tractors are all...
We often decide that the tires on our tractors are not aggressive enough. For example, we have turfs and we really need industrials (R4's), or we have R4's and we really need ags (R1's). This can happen when we realize we made a "mistake" when we bought our new tractor, or when we buy a used...
The brand-specific structure of TBN artifcially forces many questions and topics that are really of general interest into a brand-specific forum. Examples of topics that get forced into a brand forum when they are of generic interest are: how to negotiate the best price; what tires should I...
In a few weeks, when my son is home, I am going to build another bridge over my creek so I can get my tractor to my back 8 acres. The double-culvert bridge I built last fall has washed out several times, and I consider that approach to be a failure.

I recently had the opportunity to compare and test screw-on forks against chain-on forks, literally side-by-side, on my Kubota B2910. Of the models I tested, the chain-on forks were clearly superior.
I did this test with Robert Wolff of the Woodbury Tractor Company. This thread was intended...
Just took my dogs out for a nighttime tractor walk and the rattling of the loader joystick really began to bug me.
When the FEL is off my 2910 the joystick has a lot of free play and just vibrates and rattles around in its housing. The rattling diminishes at higher rpm's, but I often like to...
It has been suggested to me that, within a reasonable range, the lift capacity of a loader can be increased by raising the relief valve setting. Does anyone have any experience or comments on this.
Belly Mowing with Grand L 3X10\'s
Does anyone here belly mow with a 3010, 3410 or 3710? I just found out that the belly mowers on these tractors are incompatible with R4 tires. Seems like that would severely limit the market. But if any of you exist, I'd be interested in your evaluation of...
I could use some ideas as to how to use my tractor to re-grade the land abutting my creek to improve the drainage into the creek.

Chalkley Tires--Michelin XM27\'s
Mark,
Welcome back.
The Michelins come up in discussions periodically. Actually, I am currently thinking of upgrading to a larger tractor and one of my candidates is a 3710, which offers the same tire sizes as your 4310, so I assume the circumference...
I have finally found two uses for this contraption.
For those of you reading this post by mistake, the 2910 has a cruise control lever next to the seat. It is really more than a cruise control. It is connected to the hydro pedal and is a manual hyro control that will stay in whatever hydro...
The premise of this thread is that, by the clear weight of objective functional capabilities and measurements, the JD 4300-4700's are notably superior to the Kubota 3010-4610's and the TC33-TC45's. I hope to elicit reasoned, objective rebuttals from proponents of Orange and Blue. Otherwise...
B7500 \"Narrow\"
Saw this at dealer yesterday. I had never heard of it. Looks very strange. Like it would tip over very easily. Must be a pretty narrow market for this kind of machine.
The debate and indecision about traction tires vs. turf-friendly tires will go on until the heat death of the universe unless a new solution is invented.
How about this. You get ags. But then there is a rubberized tread that you can put on over the ag tires themselves. Like chains, but a...

72\" Belly Mowers for JD 4000 and Kubota 3X10
I am interested in the design and the ease of attach/detach on the 72" belly mowers that go on both the Kubota L3X10's and on the JD 4300/4400.
Are there rotating guage wheels on all 4 corners of the decks, so that you can easily roll the deck...
As we know, Case/IH/NH has come out with a line of tractors under the Case name that are NH Boomers painted red. Do you think there is anything to the rumour that Kubota is forming a subsidiary, giving it an American name, and marketing its Grand L and larger tractors painted green?
In the many discussions on the merits of a frame mount vs. a 3ph mount for a backhoe, it is often stated that the 3ph mount can break the "frame" or the "back" or the "rear end" of the tractor. While I intuitively believe that a frame mount has somewhat more structural integrity, I stongly...
When you mow with a side discharge mower, you can either discharge the cut clippings into the grass you've already mowed or into the grass you've yet to mow. What's best?
Surely there is an established answer to this, but I don't know it. I can make arguments both ways and end up in cerebral...
Many times I never think about the commonest things. Now I'm thinking about about what's wrong, if anything, with mowing with the discharge chute of a side discharge mower in the up postition.
I never thought about discharge chutes when I used a lawnmower. I always left the chute flap down in...
Having some experience under my belt, I am even more convinced now than I was when I began looking at tractors a year ago that the design of compact tractors, for us weekend diggers as opposed to real farmers, is all wrong. It is a design that has devolved, in an anti-Darwinian fashion, from a...
We never tire of wondering which is the right tire--R1 ags, R3 turfs, R4 industrials or bar turfs. We wonder about this before we buy the tractor, and also long after. The problem with asking for advice on this subject is that no one on these forums is likely to have tried all three or four...
I have a Kubota B2910 and use a 72" belly mower. My questions relate to the compatibility between a subframe or 3ph mounted backhoe with the attachment and operation of the belly mower. Specifically:
1. With a subframe backhoe installed on the tractor, can the belly mower also be installed on...

Among other tractor disasters today, the parking brake on my 2910 broke. It was always difficult to engage -- half the time it wouldn't seem to "catch". Now it won't catch at all; the lever just flops up and down, engaging nothing.
Since the ignition key is the extent of my technical tractor...
I agree that maximum cerebral power must be focused on the installation of a useful cupholder, the most important attachment for any tractor -- indeed, for any vehicle. The Chalkley Cup is apparently functional and particularly appealing to genetically-endowed gadgeteers. However, it is rapidly...

My wife thinks I should take my cell phone with me on my tractor so I can call someone if something were to happen to me. At first I thought that would be silly, but I think I've changed my mind.

What\'s With Tractor Wheel Sizes
Why the schizophrenia in the way tractor wheels are sized and placed?

There is a current thread I started to discuss the merits of chains vs. ropes to lift things with the loader. I am very angry with myself. I read fine print for a living, yet I neglected to read my FEL owners manual and labels before turning to this forum.

Your (Former) Football Teams, and Predictions

If you can rope a bull, why not a FEL.

I need to bridge a creek to get to get to 8 acres of my land (the working of which being a justification for my recent B2910 purchase).

Why Aren\'t PTO\'s Hydraulic?
Why have we been shafted instead of oiled?
It seems that hydraulics power all the heavy lifting attachments: buckets, hoes, blades, cranes, derricks, etc. So, why aren't tractors designed to transfer power from rear and mid PTO's via hydraulics instead of rotating...
Do you shy Tractorbynetians have any opinions as to who should be our next beloved POTUS?

I have been traveling by air a lot the past two weeks all over the country, and looking down at our beautiful country with the eyes of a new tractor owner. It is amazing how much of our country is farmland. It seems like almost everything that...
Which is Firestone's mungey word for filling tires.
Aside from the ballast and weight issues, I'm puzzling over whether it affects driving "performance". If, say, you were driving with hydroinflated rears on a perfectly smooth road, compared to unfilled tires, would it be stiffer, softer...
From a safety perspective, when ascending and descending steep hills is it safer to face uphill or downhill?
There was a thread on the CTB forum that discussed this called "Flipping Tractors". There was discussion of centers of gravity, traction, back-over-front flip potential, front-over-back...
While testing B series today, I recalled some discussion here and on CTB to the effect that you couldn't brake steer a Kubota HST. This was because the brakes are on the wrong side, and that's why Deere's are better. Something like that.
Well, maybe I dont understand brake steering, but I did...
I'm depressed.

Muhammad,
Is it possible to put in a function that allows us to sort topics in descending order by number of replies--i.e., a "most popular" topic sort. I think this is a nice feature of the Compact Tractor Board.
In this connection, what has been the longest threaded topic so far...
Does anyone have experience with a rotary brush cutter on their BX. The owner's manual specifies no more than a 42" cutter weighing no more than 300lbs. For those who don't know BX's, the limiting factors seem to be that the hitch arms are physically shorter and less spreadable than regular...
