Tractor greasing day - issue with zerks

I just did a service and it had some missing and clogs. I block it up a little so it doesnt fall all apart and tive the pin half way out, a bit more and even remove and totally coat them, fix the hole and shove it back together. Once you do it will find not such a problem. I am sure the...

    FEL Mount Cracks

On this kind of joint the rod doesnt have much to do with penetration, not really. Yes, the 10 and 11 dig a little but mauinly they freeze fast to allow for control in a joint properly designed to allow for penetration. The arc is more aggressive, it does cut thru crud a little easier but...

    Cordless Tools vs. Other Options

While new tools should be great i was telling a cousin about 1 we were using. First thing he starts off telling me about his 60v and i got to stop. It should be good for 400$ but what is really impressive in 2021 is the 50$ PC we bought a couple yrs ago with 2 batteries. Work most of a day on...

    Clutch parts???

I been at this a while and taking apart before buying is so much easier and cheaper when you find the rest id fine and you need new piece.

    Clutch parts???

Take it apart first. I did one for a neighbor a while back, they bought every part ahead which caused one to use the crap reman pressure plate they got from a dealer kit. If its nice simply slip a new disk in it.

Oil & Filter change now or later?

Since its a 1977 tractor and getting low hours you would never need to change it again with modern oil.

    Todays job

They had a little work done which was ok but they missed some and they dont paint or finish well. We clean and grind the welding from the original build, this was a copy sand it all up and spray real shiny like. Gets a full pen weld across the new section of skid pan.

Recommend engine oil for JD 4100 HST

We use modern oil in old engines. This oil is several times better than when they made the tractor. We pulled some samples after long cycles. Who would have thunk back in the day could run 7-800 even thousand hours and oil still good but,,, there is make up oil so it is a factor.

The Storm is coming in November.

I only have my own view, some analitical, mostly speculative and I would have been wrong if you asked 30 yrs ago. The products are now so generic a lot of brand loyalty is fading and the stuff and its "people" are a commodity. I would be interested to know how Everlast has been competing with...

So a guy tries to sell me a tractor says,,, I t will resale better in 10 years, I say,,, show me... He fumbles and the real math is I get 5 more large in 10 if I spend 10 more today. What does it have to do With Everlast? Anybody with a pinch of shit can afford one of these fine machines...

New machine good. Cheaper and better than it ever was. Not too long ago Mark would have been badmouthed as a shitty importer and peddler of junk and try to make the argument that his brand name machine was a bargain in comparison. I worked out but for myself a long time too where (I was a...

    Oxy regulator repair

Finding parts for the more common ones isnt much of a problem but some of the spec built models it is and they are hard to identify. Some of the 2 stage are worth fixing but replacement has got much cheaper and a guy doesnt have to fuss with finding little parts.

    X-cord for welder

This is about this statement and not about the guy that wrote it. These circuits are not designed and not intended to plug anything in them. We see this when the subject of adapters come up. I dont believe there is a legal adapter from 6-50 to anything else. There is one from 14-50 to 6-50 but...

I wonder why the code doesnt require a sign or why they think this is not a problem? Its been this way 75 years and not even a concern till the internet came along. When they invented these welders it was leagal,,, masters installed these by the millions with 10 cable to 50A range side of...

This doesnt surprise me,,, kind of the point with this thread. It was obvious before I even add my 5 cents. Its not unique to you. Here's what I do know: wiring a circuit per code will a) keep things safe, and b) This is true but how would one know what code is? Is it from,,,, I did it...

    X-cord for welder

When its plugged in it is part of the circuit. Some of the machines even list the cord limits. As for all this. I am not surprised some really dont care to learn,,, they already jknow more about this than other people and the people that designed and wrote it. It doesnt get much...

Its the insistance that its unsafe if its not wired with a 6 which is faulty. Like i said, , but you dont read that part,,, nothing wrong with it but a guy doesnt have to and there is a between also. I dont use the minimum but that was missed too. Little like politics where we only read the...

The Storm is coming in November.

I see a post here worried about parts,,,, what if my 300$ machine needs a part in 10 years. So,,, it makes more sense to buy a 2K machine in today in case it needs a 300$ part later. Something missing in school math.

    Frequency of lube changes

We were changing in older engines a lot for season, some for hours but after the advent of new oil and pulling some samples I never shut anything down for an oil change and in our 4020 was changing 2 or 3x a year,,, our use has dropped but now its every 3 years. It needs make up oil so that is...

Despite what some may think this is not critical of Everlast. The Storm is coming in November.

I understand this. Its kind of confusing to others and not so diy friendly. The use of the mvp adapter does allow smaller conductors on a 50 in the cord. Until that they had to size the cord for shorts at 50A and still do with 240 models. While its true in some sense the cord does not...

The Storm is coming in November.

Actually is is a standard code. If does differ from general wiring. Seems I read a manual once listed a 13 gauge wire. But,,, they do come with 50 end? I assume the cord is a 12 or better unless its dvi.

    X-cord for welder

I M talking to people interested in learning a little about how circuits are designed. I wonder why it takes years of study if it was as simple as some make it sound? Why dont we hook all the "220" stuff to 100A and call it a day? As for sharing a 240 with other stuff, i simply dont do it. I...

Aint sposed to be plugging lots of other stuff in to welder circuits, not designed for that, they are not multi voltage and the 6 50 is rated to 3 hp, stuff lower than that would work provided the breaker was suzed for the appliance.
