    buying advice?

well, and when I can afford it, and sell the partners on it, I may do the same. For right now, it's strictly one tractor, until everyone decides that it's too painful. The other couple involved has some rather special ideas some times. It's best to let them learn by peeing on the fence.

Eddy, are you aware that there are backhoes that don't go on the three point system? They mount a set of frames under the length of the tractor, and the hoe goes to those. That's what I'm getting. I appreciate your input on "suffering through" but sir, I am 63 years old, I got all my...

Hey shipmate! The "three point backhoes" are, based on everything I've heard/read, a breakdown waiting for a place to happen. I want one that mounts on frame rails bolted the length of the body. Yes, it lowers ground clearance slightly. No biggie in my neck of the woods. What it doesn't do...

I'm not even considering anything not 4WD, I'm in the Appalachians. This ground might as well be virgin it's been left in hay for so long, and undeveloped. That means the root cellar needs dug, the greenhouse needs dug, the stream that feeds the pond has deltaed and needs reconvinced to be a...

thanks for the suggestion, but this place, by farm standards is SMALL. about 13 acres usable farm land, the rest is in trees. by the time I put all your suggested gear on the property there'll be no room left for the hay to grow. (speaking only slightly tongue in cheek)

small squares, or small rounds on the hay, I want to be able to handle them without NEEDING the tractor to move them at all. We intend to stay small, more homestead than business. a dozen or so pigs, and one cow covered every two years, butcher the calves when they're butchering weight. The...

got a barn, got a shop. The backhoe will be for several jobs, want to put in a dug in greenhouse, and a root cellar. The pond needs work too, the stream that feeds it has deltaed out, and needs to be put back in a re dug stream bed. I can borrow some of the gear. Not planning on dealing with...

I can't figure out how to put location on this forum. We're in the hills of North East TN. We will be plowing a mile long private road if we get snow, plowing land that had been neglected long enough that I'm going to have to harrow the hell out of it first. Doing some dirt farming, to...

    buying advice?

Afternoon folks, I'm new at this, in fact real new. We need a tractor, just bought a farm that we're going to homestead/small farm. The land is rough enough that everyone I've talked to agrees I need a 50 horse plus rig (28 acres, slightly hilly) we're mainly raising hogs, but we're going to...
