    Recommended wood stove brands

We love our napoleon 1450. Was the most affordable, but very reputable, no frills woodstove I could find back in 2015 that would heat our 1600 sq ft home easily. Was only $1300 back then, no issues whatsoever in 7 years since. Have it pretty centrally located in our open-plan house, and it...

I mean, we all learned from your garage build thread that you have your own particular building preferences, lol. But this is kinda silly, man. You friend's disaster example only informed us that they did a sh!t job on the stucco and didn't waterproof the wall assembly. Its not like if you...

That must be the 11% sale price, right? I'm pretty sick of their false advertising and cumbersome rebate system. Pro tip : if you have a menards in your area, then your local home depot always matches the 11% sale from menards over the exact same time periods. Bonus, their online rebate...

    Road Rage, revisited.

Oh MAN, you just gave me flashbacks to my teenager days on the roads here in Michigan. I had a souped up Mitsubishi Eclipse hatchback. The rear glass sprayer nozzle could be rotated from spraying downwards onto the glass, to upwards and hitting about 20' behind you. When d-bags would...

    Road Rage, revisited.

Haha. I call it a beater because i scored it cheap last fall, primarily just to avoid driving my 2500HD in the winter on our decrepit, salty roads. But I'm kind of a long time VW nerd and immediately knew all the mods I wanted to do, even had some old performance parts on the shelf to toss on...

well then it sounds all good. You're not wrong, we drive too fast here. But I'm used to it, and enjoy it, to be honest. Still get 32-33 mpg going 70+ in my beater VW. If I slowed down to 60 mph and tried to nudge closer to 40 mpg, I would save.... a few bucks a month? It's meaningless...

Almost affordable again, haha. $18.95 each here in michigan today. I no longer care very much, since I finished sheeting my cabin build and used up every single one of my old, saved stock, except for one odd 7 footer and some little scraps. My years of hoarding paid off pretty nicely.

    Road Rage, revisited.

Hey, you do you. You are certainly entitled to drive as calmly as you want. But the rest of us are still going to drive 70-80 mph, because we can, and we want to. So keep in mind that your slow poking, if it is making other slow-ish drivers or semi trucks have to pass you, is creating real...

    Road Rage, revisited.

That's not really my concern. I'm not down with allowing this kind of reckless, pointless, right lane passing. I don't enjoy having to follow someone closely at 75 mph to block it, but it's even less safe to let someone squeeze in front into a 3 car gap, IMO. People around here that drive...

This is it, exactly. Every single day on our highways here. But often its 80 mph and 117 f/s instead.
  13. deezler

    Road Rage, revisited.

^ no, you misunderstand. I desire to go 75-80 mph just like everyone else on my local highways. But if you leave any safe following distance, someone will zip around you just to then go the same speed in front of you, rather than behind you. It's not because I or anyone else is going too...

    Road Rage, revisited.

^ exactly. I don't feel comfortable tailgating, I desire control of my fortunes, and options for avoidance should a panic stop or road hazard situation arise. But it really F^&(ng sucks when you get cut off repeatedly from right lane passers, so, you have to close the gap sometimes and prevent...

    Road Rage, revisited.

Just wanted to help explain the nature of Michigan highway commuting with a picture in case its helpful. Many of the cars in front of me here are in the 1.5-3 car length following range (for no good reason) and are getting a huge aerodynamic drafting benefit. Feel free to bash me for taking a...

Cheap ways to put a roof over equipment?

Interesting first post, lol. Welcome. Roofing sucks, agreed. You gotta do it right the first time, so that hopefully you basically never have to do it again. On the topic of this thread, I just had a metal carport put up. All the carport company websites advertise a basic 18x21x6 carport...

I understand this sentiment, I guess, but does everyone really think all new lumber is crap? I mean, the trees are younger, that is the main problem. But it's perfectly cut and smooth, zero knots, and they do try to align the grain for least warping. All the studs I've bought recently for my...

    Separate Nails from Wood Ash

I just made a metal sweeper by butchering an old woofer magnet myself. Took a neglected old $5 kids rake toy and bent the metal rake fins around each side of the magnet; works great. I like the idea to throw a plastic bag over it before dragging through ash, though, thanks!

    Kubota overheated!

Full agree, but mainly just responding to note that it's interesting you use the term "euchered" to say the engine is blown/shot/junk LOL. I wonder if people outside of the upper midwest even have any idea what card game you are talking about. :P

Lol, no, that wasn't me. I don't ride anyone's tail just for the fun of it, or to bully anyone out of my way. Don't get the road rage boilin' up in ya! You probably haven't done rush hour highway driving in Michigan before. Aside from a few choke points, we have generally enough highway...

    Road Rage, revisited.

No, I really don't think it will. I have been thinking about this myself as I cruise around in my 14mpg 2500HD lately. If I slowed down a bit, I could probably save.... a couple dollars a month? No thanks, I guess I'd rather still save 10 minutes per day of driving and just pay the surcharge...

I dunno. A perfectly dimensioned, zero-knots, clear grain 2x6x8’ with no warp or cup (yet) is well worth 6 bucks to me. If you think of all the steps that piece of wood went through before getting sold to me at home depot, mannn…. I’d charge 20 if i was making them. 🤪

Well of course the basic hike in the glen itself (state park) is pretty dang cool. You could get out on Seneca lake on a rented boat. Nearby Letchworth state park is even referred to as "the grand canyon of the east" but most laugh at that description when they see it. Nonetheless, beautiful...

Is that 3rd remote lever actually wrong? Looks like the metal arm is correct, just a different rubber handle slid over it? That sucks about the remote valve rust. I agree it looks horrible and it's gonna get rusty splash water all over everything else around it until you correct it. Do you...

Sawmills, sawmill buildings, drying sheds, and kilns... show your pictures!

Beautiful. So question for you and other sawyers, why not square off that 4th side before slicing the boards out? Isn't it just a lot more work for the end user to have to square those up? Or did your friend want them that way. I see a lot of home-sawed lumber on craigslist by me here in...

    Your towing rigs and trailers

Dang, both of those 'burbans look super nice. Tough choice. I think I would go 6.0L and quadrasteer, though. The 8.1 is likely to use 15-20% more fuel to do the same exact driving (though, as you note, tow a bit more leisurely). Those cab clearance and rear fender flare lights are boss, too...

    Building Shop before House

I had the exact same problem on my property. Perspicacious! Great word. There's plenty of fixed places to mount an ammo box, if that's what you meant. The stationary part of the loader frame, the rops, besides the floorboard/step, etc.

LS SAYS A REGEN EVERY 2 HOURS IS NORMAL

I bought my Kioti CK3510 with 103 hours on it. I have 165 now and I have never detected it regen once. I am a mech engineer who dyno tests engines daily, so I'm what you might call hyper sensitive to engine noises and modes. So either mine is doing all passive regens (likely, I keep RPMs up...

Yeah! Lets argue on the internet! First, what are your degrees? lol I think it's pretty obvious that putting it on backwards and backing the rear tires up to the front rail of the trailer would get the center of gravity significantly further forward. (hence increasing tongue weight).
