    Who’s cutting hay?

Finished cutting today. Here's a few pictures. The hawk was keeping a close eye out for dinner. The hay was very thick this year although I did have some freeze damage towards the top of the field.

    Who’s cutting hay?

Kyle I haven't fertilized for a couple years but I will this fall. The last couple years my baler guy has been charging 16 bucks a bale, not sure about this year. Prices are all over the map but I'm going to charge 110 bucks a bale to start. I think I'm far less than anyone else we'll see.

    Who’s cutting hay?

Got the bottom baled around midday. Only 18 bales, was hoping for 20. Started cutting the top and had to stop. At the top of the field my neighbor had a small stream of water coming off his field making it too muddy in mine. The water is off now and I'll start cutting Saturday. The last picture...

    Who’s cutting hay?

I got the bottom of my field cut last Friday then had to leave town for several days. Got back last night (Wed) raked it and waiting to bale. Surprisingly some areas are still not dry enough. :( I did not water this area but it looks pretty good volume wise, better than last year for sure. Plan...

    Who’s cutting hay?

It's been cold here all spring. Finally getting some 80 degree days. I think I'll be cutting within 2-3 weeks, maybe next week if the weather holds out. We've had some rain but not a lot, I'll get better volume than last year. Right now I'm hoping for 100-3x4x8 bales. We'll see, 2 years ago I...

Help me Design Building for Tractors and Pickup

I prefer doors on each end so you can pull in back your implement into it's space and unhook. I don't like moving this to get at that. With that in mind this is how I have done mine. If you can use wheeled dollies to move stuff around that's a good idea. This is just a small part of my barn but...

    Rural living beauty

Accessible or not it is still a beautiful setting oosik. The one thing I wish I had is a body of water on my place. I have the water to fill a pond but nowhere for it to drain to. (moving water) so I don't have a mosquito breeding ground. There is an irrigation reservoir about 3 miles from my...

    Rural living beauty

It's early here in SE Idaho for growing since the snow just melted off my place about 3-4 weeks ago, but I really enjoy this time of year. Green fields, snow capped mountains and blue sky. That little bit of watering going on is a line 800' long. It doesn't look like much but it sure makes a...

I forget the name of them but they are LED. As far as I know they are not dimmable. That's no problem because I wouldn't dim them anyway. I ordered them off Amazon and had them in 2 days.

I finally got the lights done in the barn. Each light is 18,000 lumens with 14 in the main area. I still need some plugs and lights over the work bench and the electrical work will be done for the most part. They are very bright and I'm happy with them.

I put some sacrete under each post then filled the holes with sacrete with a hose going. My boys added the concrete while I leveled the post while making sure it was up against the string line. Not very scientific but it works. :)

Got to love developments in rural areas

I have moved twice to get in a more rural area. I think I've found the place since it's cold for 5 months a year. I understand people wanting the rural life and then all of a sudden it's not rural anymore. The one's who upset me are those who move into mountainous/forested areas then want to...

How much does it cost to build a pole barn and what kind is best..

I would suggest going into the "rural living" or "do it yourself" threads and look at the projects going on there. Obviously the pitch of your roof will depend on where you live and the snow load if any. I have built 4 pole buildings over the years. The plans are in my head. Do you have the...

Storage building choices: monitor barn vs. clear span structure

I think you better determine your budget then build as big as you can within that budget. The barn in my avatar has a 45' middle section (clear span) wouldn't want it any other way. Good luck and make sure to post pictures of the build.
