    Are you a prepper?

Jeff Foxworthy: “If you have more freezers than cars in your garage, you might be a redneck.” Guilty.

    Are you a prepper?

We don’t “prep” because of any concerns or political conspiracies. But we are better prepared than most. We raise steers and laying hens and have a full freezer, and have a big garden and orchard with the proceeds canned or frozen. As long is we have power, we can eat very well for at least 6...

Kubota still offering 0 percent financing

Gnats are one of the worst experiences of an open station tractor. But still I would have broken the glass a long time ago while mowing among the trees on my property if I had a cab tractor.

Kubota still offering 0 percent financing

There are different insurance options for businesses vs. individuals. You no doubt have the best option for your business. That doesn’t mean it’s the best option for an individual.

Kubota still offering 0 percent financing

Yes it is significantly higher than other insurance options. It’s also significantly better insurance. Like all insurance, statistically the insurance company wins. But when you need it, it’s good to have insurance. It’s worth it to me. Everyone makes financial trade-offs.

Kubota still offering 0 percent financing

Except that the cash discount is negligible. So the higher price is just part of buying Kubota. Periodically they run better cash discounts. I think another part of the 0% financing is that the buyer must buy KTAC insurance during the finance period. And of course the financial odds are always...

Yeah, I joined in 2000, was active for years, then became inactive. When I decided to upgrade my tractor, I decided it was time to become active again. Hello to a fellow old-timer.

HP Ink Jet Printer Ink expires and useless?

I have a HP printer and I subscribe to HP instant ink online. For only $3.99 per month, HP monitors my ink level and ships me ink automatically when mine runs low. I did encounter the problem you had recently when I didn’t use the printer for a long time and the ink jets on the cartridges dried...

Should I even think about 2 wheel drive

I have to disagree about a 2wd truck with weight having the same traction as a 4wd truck. Not even close. I have spent my career as a forester driving woods roads. We haven’t had any 2wd trucks since the 1980s because we wasted so much time with stuck vehicles who couldn’t access where we needed...

    Liquid in tires

I had methanol in my old tractor tires for over 10 years with no issues. But when I bought my new tractor last year I opted for bio-ballast because that’s what the dealer offered.

Methanol is flammable, but is it still flammable if mixed 50-50 with water?

They are boostering the State Fair being held this week

We raise a few steers every few years . By the time they are at finished weight and ready to go to the packers, I’m ready to see them go. They aren’t loveable like dogs.

    Liquid in tires

It’s basically just colored methanol, but it’s watered down so it freezes on the windshield at single digit temperatures.

    Liquid in tires

That’s cheap unless you’re filling larger rear tires like I have on my MX. The bio ballast and water fill in my tires amounts to about 450# per tire.

A 50/50 mix of antifreeze in tractor tires isn’t cheap either.

    Rennovating a garden

IDK. EA told me it shipped from the factory and the shipment originated in Danford, KY. EA sells them, but doesn’t manufacture them. I sure like mine and I converted to category 2 pins.

    Rennovating a garden

I second this option. A have a Fred Cain cultivator that is basically the same as the dirt dog (shown in EA video). This will break up the subsoil to about 17” deep.

    The Glut Cometh

Are there many off lease vehicles in your area? They are scarce in my area. In the west, we drive so many miles that leases get hit with excessive mileage charges; therefore leasing isn’t popular.

Yes. But the question was about the pine species. Probably one seed and/or Utah juniper are those species.

True, but the wood products industry tends to do a national outlook with regional breakdowns. Lumber is sold across regions.

Stumpage prices are already back to where they were 5 years ago. Lumber prices are dropping but still high. Lumber prices follow housing starts.

I bought a cheap cordura pouch with a Velcro flap cover and a carabiner clip on it. I just clip it to the cable on the ROPs pin. Plenty of those style cases on Amazon.

What have you hit with your mower lately?

Rotary cut around 6 acres today. The only unwelcome surprises in the grass was old stumps. Many were rotted enough that the rotary cutter knocked them out of the ground. I threw them in the loader bucket to dump in the burn pile.

Buying Advice Out of State Sales Tax Confusion

It’s not a matter of no tax states. I bought mine in Colorado. They charge sales taxes to in state residents, but no sales taxes on agricultural equipment if a non resident buys there. Makes no sense to me, but that’s how my sale worked. I also checked a dealer in Texas, but they wanted to...

Bringing up old rock / gravel...want to restore parking lot and driveway...Land Plane or box blade or?

I know it’s expensive, but I think topping with new gravel or asphalt millings is your best option. Those subsurface rocks are providing a solid base and topping that base would make for a very solid parking area. Otherwise you will be disturbing the solid base and the rock will get pushed back...

Buying Advice Out of State Sales Tax Confusion

Very true. It’s good to have a local dealer relationship, but I bought out of state because the local dealer didn’t have and didn’t know when the unit I wanted would be in stock. I established a local relationship by buying a few implements and service parts items.

And a key difference is that roundup is foliage active (must be spayed on green foliage) and it doesn’t go into the soil, so it’s safe to use under trees and other desirable vegetation. It will kill most vegetation, but only if sprayed on green actively growing vegetation. 2-4-D will kill...

I have the Mastebuilt analog controller model. It works great and it’s simple.
