Battery based electric vehicles of today and tomorrow.

This thread is about electric vehicles. Political opinions are worse than normal opinions because they come from the body part we relate to opinions. The Silverado EV was introduced, it seems the Avalanche is back.

There is some legacy automakers that now sell BEVs, and some new companies that only make BEVs. Please list the companies new to the industry, that sell EVs in the US, that don’t build them in the US. Or just list the EV models produced by domestic automakers not made in the US.

    long time Kubota dealer

I visited Eastside Equipment in Watertown, SD on Thanksgiving weekend. They built a new facility there in the summer of 2020. My BIL was thinking about a tractor purchase and asked my opinion, so we drove over. Business is good, it seems.

I was under the impression that domestic production slows down as the price drops, due to higher costs. I always have heard that North Dakota oil is a money losing endeavor when crude is under $80 per barrel.

The proposed subsidies that were in BBB were to replace the current program. Therefore, the old subsidy remains. The current status of that is GM and Tesla have exceeded the # of units sold to qualify. Ford will run out this year, Nissan this year or next. The rebate for home EVSE installation...

I was hesistant about the EV truck when I realized how other companies are sticking everything on a screen. I was relieved when I saw the truck I was interested in had a normal layout for the basics. Cruise, lights, signals, and wipers on levers behind the wheel.

I know where worn out car batteries go. The company I work for has done lots of work for Gopher Resource LLC, located in Eagan, MN. They recycle batteries.

Fuddy, your math checks out. As long as: You never replace your current truck. If you do, I would think those numbers apply to a gas or diesel truck also. Imo, solar systems currently don’t pencil out when I pay .08-.13 for electricity. Unfortunately, that is going to drastically change. Xcel...

The truck I have pre-ordered, with only a vague notion of if and when I can purchase it, is specced out with a range of 220(+) miles, and has a payload capacity of 1,800 pounds. My biggest concern is range loss in the winter. I work year round, outdoors, and my truck is outdoors when at work...

I drive 110-120 miles round trip for work daily. I need to carry 40-80 gallons of diesel fuel, about 800 pounds of tools, and my butt. I fully plan on an electric for my next truck. $6 worth of electricity vs $25 of gas sounds good to me. If ya need to tow 12,000 lbs 500 miles every day, an...

Weird, I don’t remember him forming that opinion back when they started out, or anytime up until now. What changed? Tesla has competition, and gov’t subsidies no longer benefit Tesla disproportionately. Tesla has received an estimated $4.9B in subsidies since they started. If they don’t need...

Hybrid willows or poplars in areas with moisture. Scotch pines in drier areas. All pines are a bit more resistant to overspray than a leaf tree. Hemlock and arborvitae can be planted close to a line, the others above will have to be 20’ back.

Rivian had a good week. I’ve read and watched some reviews, seems to be an overall favorable impression so far of the R1T. They also picked up a wee bit of operating capital.

OP did not specify, just said working paver for $7,500. You couldn’t buy a working concrete paver for $30,000, let alone under 10 grand. Hence my assumption.

Where the heck are people getting concrete anywhere close to $100 a yard on a truck? $170 here. Concrete will not go thru an asphalt paver. It will not flow out to the edges. I was finally going to surface my gravel drive this year, 45’x70’. After the sixth bid, 3 bit, 3 crete, I gave up and...

Canoo signed a contract with Panasonic to supply their batteries. Then I read this from Car and Driver: ‘Canoo said they chose the Panasonic batteries—which will not be the Tesla-specific 4680 format—for their proven reliability.’ Those kids at Tesla need to learn that sharing is caring. I...

Slim, check around for any flatbed dealers in your area. I live 50 miles from one, and I’m sure I could drive over there and buy a brand new box off a GM, Ford, or Ram; as long as I want white.

The only thing wrong there is the charge time at the truck stop. The recharge time is faster than you could eat the noon special and have a slice of pie. Most new EV’s have a 15-30 minute recharge time on a DC fast charger. With a 500 mile range, you could go, stay overnight, and drive back...

About $50-$500 for the wire and outlet. (Depends on proximity to panel) $350-600 for a smart charger, or around $100-$150 for an adaptor cord to go from your car’s cord to a 220v outlet. Actual power cost would be based on consumption, cost of kw in your grid, and whether your supplier has...
