What have you hit with your mower lately?

Oh, I've run over any number of water hoses, and flower beds disguised as weed beds, which makes my wife very unhappy. But when I sideswiped the satellite dish two weeks ago, that was a major transgression. No internet until today, when they finally got a guy out here to readjust it. Side note...

    Kubota BX1500D Leaky Tank Barb

With 5200, I have generally found, on my boat , that it will cure sufficiently in warm weather in a day or two. I guess that the manufacturer is saying that full cure takes longer. How significant is the difference? I don't know. I do know that when I used it on a leaking hose barb fitting on a...

Looking for more aggressive tires for Kubota Z411-48

I really like my z411, but I am getting tired of slipping sideways on our many hills, or getting stuck --especially when it's damp--which it is a lot of the time here in western Washington. I'm not concerned about leaving tread impressions. And I do lots of maneuvering around trees and beds...

    Kubota BX1500D Leaky Tank Barb

If you want a bombproof connection, try resetting the fitting in a marine grade permanent sealant . 3M 5200 is the gold standard. It will resist diesel and will not vibrate loose. Of course, you will never be able to remove the fitting. The old standby JB Weld will work, too. It's basically a...

    What would you do ?

I would gladly trade some of our excess rain (rainiest May since 1948) in Western Washington for a measured share of some of your heat in the Southwest. It has been so wet and cold that I can't mow various areas at all. It's tiresome to keep pulling the zero turn out of the mud with the tractor...

    No more 'treadle pedal'

I like the treadle on my BX25D. Nobody has mentioned its big advantage: when you turn your body to look backwards for reverse, you don't have to contort your leg to pressing the reverse side of the treadle. Plus it's intuitive: front end to go forward, back end to go reverse.

B2601 rear tire full of hydraulic fluid?

Beet juice has a sweetish smell, and dries sticky.

    Why did my tractor start?

Well, back at the tractor today...and of course, it refused to crank. Just a click, then the whirring of the fuel pump. Then, after I turned off the key, another decisive click. Checked to make sure the pto lever was in neutral, and that the foot rocker pedal was neutral. So then I started in...

Clamp on hitch receiver, whatam I missing?

Root Cause, that's a great solution: cheap, simple, and uses the hardware he's already got. And he doesn't have to remove his backhoe.

Clamp on hitch receiver, whatam I missing?

Looks interesting, but could you please explain it a little more?
  12. F

Clamp on hitch receiver, whatam I missing?

While bcp's solution certainly looks strong and effective, there are simpler ways of securing your receiver. I have one from Titan that looks identical to yours. First, the advantage of putting it on the loader bucket is that you can adjust the height without using a riser under the ball. Just...

    Why did my tractor start?

But in my case, it started again without changing a fuse. However, I will check the safety switches again. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Why did my tractor start?

Tested across battery terminals. I thought the clicks were fuel pump.

    Why did my tractor start?

Yes, they are momentary contact buttons.

    Why did my tractor start?

Hmmm...I suppose I might have pushed one of the 3rd function buttons by accident. How could I test this theory?
  17. F

    Why did my tractor start?

No remote start capability. I didn't even know that exists for tractors.

    Why did my tractor start?

Thanks to all! These sound like logical ways to proceed. I won't be able to follow them up until next weekend, but then I'll be sure to report back.

    Why did my tractor start?

I don't understand... I have a Kubota BX25D, about 1500 hours. Today I worked it for several hours, using the loader and the backhoe to extract a stump and move dirt, roots, etc. Temp in the low 40s, no rain. I started (normal, no hesitation) and stopped it several times while using saws...

Ballast Compact TLB should i remove tire fluid?

Yes, even the BX25D manual says that. But it's really impractical, so I doubt that anybody actually drains the liquid ballast, then pumps it back in, over and over. Maybe there's some legal liability issue; but you can't do that in the real world.
  21. F

Ballast Compact TLB should i remove tire fluid?

Well, just to confuse things: I have a smaller TLB, a BX25D. I have loaded tires (beet juice). I do a lot of backhoe work, and a lot of loader work. I don't have any problem shifting the tractor around or ooching it along with the backhoe. In fact, I wouldn't mind more weight everywhere to keep...

    wheel spacers for BX23S

Another endorsement for Bro-Tek spacers . I installed a pair of the 3" ones on the rear of my BX25D a couple of years ago. Well machined, precise fit, easy to install, good instructions. They have increased stability amazingly, and show no signs of loosening, cracking, or otherwise failing. And...

BX steering--something to watch out for

Tinhack, you're right! I finally had a chance to check on the die that I used; it's a 3/8-24. I just remembered it wrong when I wrote my original post. Thanks for the correction!

BX steering--something to watch out for

Well, I checked the nut with a thread gauge, and then that's the die that fit, and then the nut went on and held. I think the tractors are a mix of metric and SAE.
  25. F

BX steering--something to watch out for

Something to add to that: it appears that the nut was missing for some time, as the threads on the pin were buggered up with wear from slipping around in the hole on the wheel assembly. The upper part of the pin is tapered, so it's a press fit into the hole. (Just bang it down, so you can keep...

BX steering--something to watch out for

Just a caution for all you BX owners: The other day, I started backing my BX25D out of the shed, and all of a sudden there was no steering. I looked down and saw that the left front wheel was pointig sideways. The vertical kingpin that connects the tie rod to the wheel had come out of its hole...

    grapple time

This particular grapple setup weighs only about 130 pounds. So yes, of course, that is subtracted from the lifting capacity of the loader; but the tradeoff seems worthwhile to me. It is so helpful to be able to grab stuff, either to rip it out, or just to move it.
  29. F

    Mounting tire chains

I can't seem to visualize why you specify laying the chains out with the outside down.

    grapple time

Not at all! I have a BX25D. Last summer I installed a 3rd function kit and put an Add a Grapple on the stock bucket. I have for a long time had a Piranha toothbar on the bucket. I am constantly delighted at how much more I can accomplish with this combination. I work in the woods a lot, and move...

    FEL bucket curl cylinder bounces

Thank you for your explanation. I only vaguely understand the section about the geometry, as I have only basic knowledge of the system. In any case, how can I diagnose the cause?
  32. F

    FEL bucket curl cylinder bounces

Thanks, I'll try that. Won't be back to the tractor until next weekend. Does that imply that there might be a loose coupler or a leaking hose?
  33. F

    FEL bucket curl cylinder bounces

Should I worry about this? On my Kubota BX25D, the curl cylinder bounces in and out a little at the end of its travel when I curl it, and also when I'm driving with a load in the bucket. Since I added an Add-a-Grapple lid to it, this motion is accentuated. In other respects it works fine.

Caulk / sealant compatible w/ Rustoleum?

For bombproof caulking that will adhere to anything forever, try 3M 5200. It's made for marine use, and on my boat, it's still tight after 20 years in saltwater.

Your favorite LED light bar from amazon that's flood only

I hope nobody makes fun of my improvised solution! I only occasionally need better light after dark, if I've stayed out working in our woods too long. All I need is enough light to see the trails and get home. I was in Costco a few days ago, and bought a pair of "heavy duty work lights, 2000...

    Add-a-grapple source

    Add-a-grapple source

I finally finished my installation on my BX25D today, so here's a first-day evaluation. There were three parts: the Summit Hydraulics 3rd function kit, the AddAGrapple (small size), and 2 custom hoses from North Sound Hose and Fittings in Everett WA, to connect the first two parts. In general...

    Add-a-grapple source

I called Precision Manufacturing themselves, and talked to a very helpful guy named Bill. He advised getting the 114400 "Small", based on the dimensions of my bucket. He told me to order from Agfolks.com, as they work together on orders like this. So that's what I did. I got not only a...

Clamp On Tractor Bucket Hitch Recommendation

I have the Titan clamp-on receiver. It's pretty cheap, but solid. I had to do a couple of small mods to make it stop swiveling from side to side. I have a Piranha toothbar on the bucket. It has little ridges on top every 8 inches or so. I welded a piece of 3/8" threaded rod sideways into the...

    Add-a-grapple source

Thank you, CoyPatton. That's the information I was looking for. Yes, I have a pin-on bucket. I thought about getting a conversion plate like the Ai2, and then getting a complete grapple, but the expense and extra weight were not appealing, considering the limited lifting ability of the bx...

    Add-a-grapple source

I'm looking at buying an Add-a-grapple, made by Precision Manufacturing, to attach to the stock bucket on my BX25D. I have a Piranha toothbar on the bucket.. It looks like the most economical way to get a grapple function for moving brush and logs. I have already ordered a 3rd function kit from...

large stump - split the top and pull the pieces?

I have removed a lot of stumps by using a combination of methods. The most useful tool has certainly been the backhoe, first to dig enough to expose the roots, then to rip and break the roots wherever possible. It helps to move around the stump, so as to work at 90 degrees to the roots. Along...

Pin to QA conversion for loader

Hmmm...I'm confused. But now I see that the Brush Cutter 3000, which Westendorf says is sized for a subcompact, appears to consist of 2 separate single-arm grapples, which attach to the loader arms by sliding over the ends of the arms, and then being pinned somehow. The Westendorf website is...

Pin to QA conversion for loader

I'm thinking about converting the loader on my Kubota BX25D from pin-on to quick attach, so that I can change easily from the bucket to a grapple. (I'm leaning toward the Westendorf Brush Crusher, which doesn't require additional hydraulics.) Can anyone recommend a conversion system which could...

    Loader Popping sound

Lately, when I dig into a pile of something heavy, or a dirt slope laced with roots, with the loader bucket, I sometimes hear a metallic pop when curling the bucket up. It's almost as if a rock rolled back to hit the back of the bucket, but I don't have rocks in the bucket. Any ideas? Something...

Tire Selection Kubota z411-48 tire replacement for better traction

I am thinking of replacing the turf tires on my kubota z411 mower with something more aggressive to reduce sliding on hills, especially when it's wet. I would be happy to find my adventures elsewhere, and it would be nice not to have to assure my wife that I didn't mow her plantings through...

    Bro-Tek wheel spacers are great

I know I'm not the first to say this, but I am so pleased with my new 3" rear wheel spacers on my BX25D that I wanted to give a public compliment to Richard at Bro-Tek. The improvement in stability on my hilly property here in the rainforest of western Washington has been remarkable. I work the...
