Yes I would THINK that is ok but not sure. I’m sure once upon a time that was the case but so was multiple devices in one flue as long as the heaviest heat was lower in the flue. Example wood in the lower and oil above the wood heat. I know they changed that. I also know a firemen who made the...

About a month ago hurricane Fiona wreaked havoc on East Coast Canada. Right where we are located we didn't fair out to bad. We lost power for a week and we had some blow downs. I have it all cleaned up now. Thanks Hurricane Fiona for the firewood but now I need a wood shed. I needed a shelter...

I think you might be right. I am flip flopping back and forth. We had an Asian bark beatle kill most of the good trees on our property so I got to thinking maybe a cord wood style or rock and cordwood combo. One of my next step is what you suggested. Stock pile the big rocks and get the...

Your Yearly Cost of Tractor Ownership

It is good you are in that boat. Most home owners are. The problem begins when you are working your tractor to make money and it is working hard for 300 to 500 hours a year. It sure does cut into profit. I try to be fair. Most of my customers are little old retired ladies with not much money...

My tractor is a L4740 47 hp. With the price of oil and fuel it comes to about $25 an hour if working it hard. That is not counting repairs. As long as I can afford my tractor I will run it. I try to plan my work so I’m doing things half way efficiently. Here is a video of some small...

Thanks for the reference to the other interesting posts. To answer your questions I don’t really have to finish the road but the original thought was a log home or cord wood. Putting the road in gave me access to some decent wood for the cabin. It may or may not be enough wood but when making...

I know this is an older posting but I just started returning to this forum. Man I bet you are some glad you went with wood now. I know here in East Coast Canada the price of oil is about $2.20 a litre. About $10 a gallon. It will cost us about $6000 to heat our house this year if even if we...

Can <40hp compact tractor tow a trailer?

Mine tractor is an L4740 and 5000 lb is recommended. It could pull more in low range. My tractor is a hydrostatic and 47 hp. A gear tractor would be a bit more. 5000 lb in a trailer on the road in high range is to much on hills. Med range as long as you take your time and not push it is ok...

There is something about a cosy smaller house especially if you get along good with the wife. I would love to down size and live in a 600 foot cabin in a remote area of our 23 acres. Alot less to maintain, less wood to cut etc. Sometimes it is not easy to simplify life. At this time I am...

I know how you feel about slowing down. I wonder if you had a long rope or cable and hooked a pulley to the tree and ran the rope from tractor, through the pulley then to the hung tree. This way you may have a better angle to move the tractor farther.

Man that is a huge tree. Here is Cape Breton we don't get them that big. Usually not more than one cord per tree and that is a good tree. I do know of a place where there is 30 acres of nothing big huge trees, 3 and 4 feet across. It is very hard to access thou.

The big forestry companies attempted select cut in our area but if the harvest area is to big and not protected from the wind they sure do have alot of blow downs. Definitely need wind breaks. One of the safest ways to bring down a hung tree is with a winch. Logging winches can be purchased...

you can hook a long chain to the bottom of the tree to the tractor and slide the bottom out until the tree top falls out of the other tree and slips down it to the ground. If doing that you have to make sure the tree is not wedged in the dirt and the top starts toppling over. I had that happen...

I guess we both know inflation is coming whether we like it or not. Wish we had access to more domestic fuel. I would pay a bit more for fuel as well as if it was a North American company doing the mining. Not so much if a foreign identity came in. How many acres do you own?
