I updated my previous post but it turned out that the 30amp fuse need to be re-seated. All's well now, however I discovered that the fuse physical size is a 'mini', not 'automotive', so I'll need to get some spares for the future.

Doesn't the 'guard' include a small blade to ensure that both of the 'strings' are at the same length when you tap the head? I've found no need to remove it as it also helps to prevent debris from being propelled towards you.
